Cafeteria Manager I Job Description
Responsible for the supervision and management of the campus school nutrition operation. Responsible to ensure that appropriate quantities of food are prepared and served in a safe and sanitary environment.
ResponsibilitiesEnsure food production standards are met to guarantee the safety and quality of food according to federal, state and local policies, procedures and regulations.
Direct daily activities in the food production areas and serving lines.
Supervise, train and evaluate employees promoting efficiency, employee morale and teamwork.
Follow established food safety (HACCP) procedures to ensure standards of cleanliness, health and food safety.
Maintain accurate reports of daily and monthly financial, food production and student activity records.
Complete 10 hours of professional development training annually per USDA Professional Standards policy.
- GED/High School Diploma
- San Jacinto College School Nutrition Certification course completion, Region 4 Manager’s Academy Program or TASN Level 4 Certification
- Working knowledge of methods, materials, equipment used in school nutrition quantity food production
- Ability to manage team of up to 8 employees
- Knowledge of basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and department software
- Three years of experience in institutional food service operations, preferably in a school nutrition environment
Uses large and small kitchen equipment to include, but not limited to oven, mixer, chopper, steamer, top burners, tilt skillet/braiser, scales, knives, slicer, steam table, and dish machine.
PostureContinual standing, walking, pushing and pulling; frequent stooping, bending, kneeling and climbing (ladder); able to stand on feet up to 8 hours per day.
MotionAble to bend neck, hands, wrists, arms, and back to stoop frequently; able to climb ladder to reach items on high shelves in the pantry or the cooler/freezer.
LiftingModerate lifting and carrying; able to lift items up to 40 lbs. and able to push/pull items up to 80 lbs.
EnvironmentModerate exposure to extreme hot and/or cold temperatures, steam, and cleaning chemicals.
Mental DemandsAbility to communicate effectively in English; understand verbal and/or written directions in English; reading; demonstrate emotional control in stressful situations; workload is deadline driven.
