Job Description
The Safety Coordinator works in conjunction with the Safety Manager to provide employees with a safe working environment, while also ensuring compliance with applicable local, state and federal rules and regulations at the La Porte, TX terminal. This position reports directly to the Safety Manager. We are looking to hire the right person with some safety experience in the trucking industry.
The person selected will assist the Safety Manager with the following objectives.
- Ensures road tests are completed for all driver candidates
- Ensure compliance with DOT and non-DOT drug screens as required
- Ensure the scheduling of pre-employment physicals (DOT and non-DOT)
- Ensure all DOT and non-DOT drivers are qualified prior to driving or operating any Sprint vehicle/equipment
- Ensure all required paperwork related to new hires (DOT and non-DOT employees) is completed and filed properly
- Ensure all new hires complete the proper orientation training
- Ensure compliance with and track all Driver Qualification items using website database
- Ensure all employees are provided with proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Ensure weekly safety meetings with drivers for training on safety, driving, hours of service, and any other topics that are needed to ensure compliance with all laws and regulations
- Ensure all roadside inspections, traffic citations and traffic warnings are handled in a timely manner and in compliance with company policies, state and federal laws
- Ensure that all drivers/employees maintain current badging status with Contractor Safety Council
- Ensure that all random drug/alcohol testing is completed on time
- Respond to accidents involving company employees and vehicles. Investigate accidents and complete required paperwork. Ensure post-accident drug and alcohol testing is performed when required
- Must be willing to accept calls on a rotation during off hours to assist drivers and other company employees with safety related items
- Ensure drivers comply with daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections
- Train drivers on performing proper inspections. Conduct random spot checks to monitor compliance
- Conduct Level 2 truck/trailer inspections at least once per month (submit results to Safety Director)
- Conduct red tags at minimum once per month (submit results to Safety Director)
- Audit drivers’ daily logs and ensure that they are complete and error-free using Isaac Instruments
- Review Lytx videos daily – categorize videos and counsel drivers, as applicable
- Forward all required paperwork to the Safety Director and/or HR departments in a timely manner
- High school diploma or GED
- Class C driver's license, CDL preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Able to adapt to a changing environment
- Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft applications
- Able to effectively interact with different levels within the organization
- Ability to travel between terminals
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines/self-starter
