Truck Driver - Hiker/Vehicle Transporter/CDL - Part Time

Job Summary:

Penske Truck Leasing seeks highly motivated and qualified applicants to fill the unique position of Hiker (Vehicle Transporter/Truck Driver). The Hiker is responsible for vehicle delivery and returning vehicles to Penske locations and Penske customers. The role primarily moves box trucks up to 26’ and, for CDL Class A holders, includes tractor and trailer movement. The position may also support the service department by delivering parts and equipment.

This is a casual/on‑call part‑time truck driving job ideal for licensed CDL Class B or CDL Class A drivers seeking supplemental income. Work may range from 0 to 25 hours a week based on business needs. The position is located at 26 Ingram Blvd, La Vergne, TN 37086.

Typical schedule:

Monday, Wednesday and Friday 6 am–3 pm. CDL Class A is preferred.

Major Responsibilities

• Follow appropriate safety procedures while driving trucks to Penske or customer locations.
• Check vehicles to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment function and report issues to the location manager.
• Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required.
• Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage.
• Complete other projects and tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

• 2 years of driving experience.
• 2 years of a clean DMV motor vehicle record.
• Valid Class B CDL required; applicants must be domiciled in the U.S. and licensed in their state of residence.
• CDL Class A license preferred.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions.
• Independent work, customer service skills, organizational skills, and a positive attitude.
• English language proficiency (required by federal law).
• Regular, predictable, full attendance is essential.
• Must maintain a driver qualification file, comply with DOT regulations, complete a DOT Physical, and be subject to FMCSA Clearinghouse review.
• Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, complete the Penske application, submit to background and drug screening.

Physical Requirements

• Demonstrated ability to perform tasks described, with reasonable accommodations for disabilities.
• Must see and hear; requires close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
• Must move frequently, stand, walk, sit, use hands to touch, handle, feel, and reach; can lift up to 50 lbs and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
• Must legally operate a motor vehicle and safely enter/exit, including cargo area.
