Full time TERM for English Additional Language (EAL) Teacher. Duties to commence September 8, 2026 until incubent returns.
This position works with students who are eligible and approved to receive English as an Additional language instruction.
The successful candidate will be responsible for initial and ongoing assessment of English language learning competencies, direct teaching in class and small group settings to support language, literacy and numeracy competencies and the delivery of the approved EAL curriculum. You will support language development from linguistic, literary, social, cultural and psychological perspectives. Collaboration with teachers, parents and other student supports to enhance teaching and learning is expected.
This position will require on site presence at the school or schools that the position services - travel between schools may be required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Pedagogical and practical knowledge of teaching English as a second/additional language, including theory, learning strategies, stages of language development, individual differences, and language structure.
A range of TESL teaching and evaluation and assessment methods, strategies, and skills.
Culturally and linguistically responsive teaching methods including the planning and implementation of effective and responsive teaching and learning practices.
Demonstrated evidence of how to shape a safe and positive learning environment for students and willingness to engage professionally with colleagues, families and communities.
Knowledge of trauma-informed teaching practices will be considered an asset.
Demonstrated love of learning and an ability to build learner and leadership capacity.
Bachelor of Education
NL Teaching Certificate - Level IV or higher
Major in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL)
Equivalencies will be considered
Valid Driver’s License as travel with personal vehicle may be required
Annual Teacher Salary Scale contained within the NLTA Provincial Collective Agreement and benefits contained within the agreement.
Please note, the following incentives are PRO-RATED if a teacher works less than the full contract awarded or on periods of unpaid leave.
A taxable $2040.00 I solation Allowance paid to all Labrador teachers on a b-weekly basis. Please refer to Article 24.02 of the Collective Agreement.
Subsidized housing units may be available in Labrador City and Wabush.
A Labrador Allowance and Travel Allowance calculated based on school location and dependants. The bonus is prorated if a teacher works less than a full school year or if not full time. Please follow the link for details.
For those that need to relocate, a one time only round trip travel claim to travel to the school community and back to your home location during the first year is available up to a maximum of $1700.00 . One travel claim is paid upon arrival to the community through the travel claim system and the other paid at the end of the school year when you arrive home.
Pro-rated repayment may be required if break in the contract.
Annual Teacher Salary Scale contained within the NLTA Provincial Collective Agreement and benefits contained within the agreement.
Applicants without the required qualifications or equivalencies may be considered in accordance with Clause 37.01 (d) of the provincial collective agreement.

Please note that candidates designated as Recommendable in 2024 or 2025 individual or pool competitions will have that designation carried over for 2026 and will not require an interview for similar positions.
