Adjunct Faculty - Math

Overview

This posting is primarily for in-person instruction on the Lafayette campus. Adjunct Faculty positions are temporary, part-time positions hired each semester on an as-needed basis. The adjunct faculty member will be responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided by the School.

• Program operation:
  Perform all instructional duties necessary to teach and facilitate student learning in assigned classes. Provide syllabus appropriate to course(s) being taught to students and follow syllabus content and requirements. Maintain student attendance and grading records according to College policy. Submit requested information within established timelines.
• Students:
  Be available to students outside scheduled class time to answer questions and provide assistance. Address student concerns and, if necessary, consult with the program coordinator to resolve issues.
• Instruction:
  Meet all scheduled classes of contracted course(s). Use technology such as Canvas, Online Homework System, etc., as appropriate. In the event of an emergency absence, notify the program/department chair.

• Must have strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to the area of instruction, with faculty credentials as outlined in the ASOM 7.1 as applicable to the specific area of instruction.
• A qualified mathematics faculty member is one who has an earned master’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in mathematics, or a master’s degree with 18 graduate semester credits in mathematics-related courses. Other pathways: ABD (All But Dissertation) or 45 graduate semester hours in a single program that meet course requirements; or a master’s degree in secondary education with a relevant concentration (e.g., mathematics) with 12 graduate credits and 12 undergraduate credits at the 300- and 400-level for general education courses that are 100 level only.
• Teaching experience.
• Selected candidate for employment will be subject to pre-employment background checks, including criminal history check; offer contingent upon that outcome.
• Copies of transcripts may be required at time of interview. Original hard copies of transcripts will be required at time of hire.
