Job Description

WHO WE ARE

Sandy Beach Lighting & Design Co. designs and installs outdoor lighting systems, architectural audio, and large-scale seasonal displays for residential, commercial, and civic properties. Our work has earned national recognition from the Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals (AOLP), including 2026 Best in Show for Lighting Outdoor Living and a 2024 Award of Merit for holiday lighting.

We are a design-driven company, not a volume contractor. Our installations are clean, intentional, and built to last, and we run on clear standards, accountability, and pride in the work.

Our owner sits on AOLP’s national board and teaches its designer certification course. You’ll learn the trade from the people who teach it.

ABOUT THE ROLE

You’ll lead a three- to four-person crew in the field. You’ll work from established project plans, run the day, operate equipment, solve problems, and deliver installations that meet our standard without constant supervision.

This role fits someone with a strong background in construction, landscaping, irrigation, electrical work, or another skilled trade. Outdoor lighting experience is not required. We train you in our products, methods, and systems.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Lead and work alongside the crew on residential and commercial installations
  • Read project plans and organize each day’s work, materials, and equipment
  • Operate trenchers, mini excavators, skid steers, and aerial lifts, as qualified and authorized
  • Install underground wiring, low-voltage components, fixtures, and mounting systems
  • Troubleshoot in the field, and know when to make the call and when to ask
  • Keep the jobsite safe, organized, and professional
  • Document work and report progress in Jobber and Company Cam
  • Train other technicians and hold them to the standard
  • Communicate professionally with clients

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Required

  • 2–3 years or more in construction, landscaping, irrigation, electrical installation, or a related trade
  • Hands-on experience operating construction equipment
  • Experience leading a crew or running installations independently
  • Ability to read plans and execute detailed installation instructions
  • Comfort with smartphones, tablets, and field software
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and the ability to drive a truck and pull a trailer
  • Ability to do physical outdoor work in all weather, lift at least 50 lbs, and work at heights with training and safety equipment

A plus

  • Low-voltage electrical or outdoor lighting installation
  • Landscape construction or excavation
  • Aerial lift operation
  • Programmable lighting or control systems

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • $28–$35/hour, based on experience, skills, and leadership ability
  • Four-day work week:
Monday–Thursday, 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., with Fridays as a flex day when weather or deadlines require it
  • Overtime opportunity during the pre-holiday display season
  • Paid holidays
  • Two weeks of paid time off after one year
  • Year-round work
  • Paid training, plus company-sponsored AOLP certification as you reach defined milestones:
Certified Low Voltage Lighting Technician (CLVLT) and Certified Outdoor Lighting Designer (COLD)

ADVANCEMENT

Advancement opens up after your first 90 days and is based on performance, not time served. There are two paths:

  • Installation: grow as a field leader, with the opportunity to move into sales
  • Design: move into lighting design and sales

We operate with clear standards and direct feedback. You’ll know what’s expected, where you stand, and what it takes to advance.

HOW TO APPLY

Apply through this listing with your resume or a short summary of your work history.

The workday starts and ends at our Lafayette shop. Job sites vary by project.
