Overview

The College of Engineering is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Laboratory Assistant to support the manufacturing instructional laboratories and facilitate hands‑on student learning, faculty research, and prototype development across various engineering disciplines. The ideal candidate will play an integral role in assisting the mechanical engineering and engineering and technology management programs in adopting advanced manufacturing technologies and processes. This position aims to prepare future professionals for the evolving field of advanced manufacturing.

The Laboratory Assistant will report to the Department Head of Mechanical Engineering.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the instruction of manufacturing technologies for mechanical engineering and engineering and technology management students.
  • Provide hands‑on instruction in CNC machining and manual machining to students.
  • Support student project manufacturing, offering guidance and technical expertise as needed.
  • Manage and maintain the manufacturing infrastructure and equipment within the laboratory and shop environments.
  • Collaborate with faculty and students to facilitate research and prototype development across engineering disciplines.
  • Ensure proper safety protocols and procedures are followed within the laboratory.
  • Maintain and organize tools, machinery, and equipment, ensuring everything is in working order.
  • Assist in the development of new teaching materials and resources related to advanced manufacturing processes.
  • Provide technical support to faculty and students as they engage with complex manufacturing tasks.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree.
  • OR a minimum of five (5) years of relevant industry experience in machining or manufacturing technologies will substitute for the degree requirement.
