• Prepare and maintain medical equipment for surgical procedures.
• Follow hospital regulations and industry procedures to tend to patients during pre-operation procedures.
• Perform surgical case preparation including surgical instrumentation and medical equipment.
• Provide assistance to the circulating RN with procedure/patient preparation.
• Ensure proper equipment, instruments and supplies are provided for procedures and specialty areas.
• Maintain a well-organized sterile setup/field at all times to support smooth operations.
• Follow sterile techniques and maintain a sterile field at all times.
• Operate autoclaves and follow proper sterilization methods for selected instruments.
• Count instruments, sponges and sharps according to procedure.
• Check instrumentation for accuracy and maintain functionality throughout procedures.
• Follow recommended AORN guidelines at all times.
• Collaborate with the OR team, anticipate surgeons’ needs, and participate in case progress.
• Assist with room turnovers to help decrease turnover time and support OR staff.
• Respond to overhead pages promptly (within 3 minutes).
• Assist with after-hours clerical OR desk duties by answering phones and taking messages.
• Able to take call for assigned department within four months of hire, if required by facility.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Education:
  
  Graduate of accredited Surgical Technology program (one year of experience may substitute for this requirement).
• Experience:
  
  No experience required.
• Special Skills:
  Communication, customer service, computer skills; knowledge of medical terminology.
