Registered Respiratory Therapist - Lourdes WCH Campus
- Nights

FMOL Health is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist to participate in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with pulmonary disorders. The RRT will initiate and manage Life Support Systems under physician direction, perform tasks within their scope of practice, and function with limited supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver standardized therapeutic respiratory therapy procedures in accordance with clinical practice guidelines.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and concise records as per hospital and department policy.
  • Participate in fiber optic bronchoscopies: prepare and monitor patients, assist the physician, handle specimens, perform post‑procedure care, and maintain equipment.
  • Perform basic spirometry studies, ensure equipment calibration, and post results promptly.
  • Identify risks, hazards, and complications of arterial punctures; demonstrate proficiency to minimize complications.
  • Assist physicians and nurses in cardiopulmonary stress labs and operate the Cardio 2 computer.
  • Provide care for all age groups—adults, geriatrics, pediatrics, infants—meeting required competencies.
  • Demonstrate clinical goals of oxygen therapy administration and assess adequacy of patient response.
  • Recognize signs of potential cardiopulmonary arrest and initiate resuscitation, certified in CPR.
  • Assess patients for distress requiring immediate intervention and manage emergent problems.
  • Manage ventilator technical components, understand respiratory system pathophysiology, and serve as a resource for new staff.
  • Analyze arterial blood samples, assess values, identify causes of abnormalities, and recommend interventions.
  • Lead as team leader, teacher, and role model; set goals, plan activities, and complete assignments efficiently.
  • Observe, assess, and report patient status to appropriate personnel consistently.
  • Engage in staff development as a resource person and mentor; educate patients and families about respiratory procedures.
  • Consistently perform the 12 organizational Service Standards focused on Values, Service, and Quality.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent from a CoArc‑approved program (10 years experience as licensed therapist substitutes for the degree).
  • BLS required; ACLS and PALS required within 6 months of hire (NRP also required within 6 months for Women’s and Children’s positions).
  • Successful completion of both the Certified and Registered exams administered by the NBRC; current NBRC certification required.
  • Current Louisiana state license or temporary permit issued by LSBME.
