PRIMARY PURPOSE & FUNCTION

Health Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE) Manager – Develop and implement HSSE systems throughout the organization. Provide HSSE guidance and feedback to management and staff. Track and trend HSSE data, providing the organization with leading and lagging metrics. Promote HSSE and communication across all disciplines. Work schedule 5x2, on call 24/7. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Promote health and safety within the work environment.
  • Develop and implement HSSE systems and programs.
  • Trend HSSE data and communicate findings to management.
  • Lead the organization to achieve HSSE goals.
  • Respond immediately to workplace incidents, remaining on call and ready to respond during designated intervals; assist injured employees with medical care and manage OSHA recordability.
  • Analyze workplaces and design initiatives to control, eliminate, and prevent injuries.
  • Inspect workplaces to ensure compliance with state and federal laws or company/client safety and environmental policies.
  • Conduct analyses on the effectiveness of safety and health programs.
  • Identify hazardous conditions affecting workers, property, environment, and the public.
  • Help develop new safety practices, conduct training sessions for field employees and management, and monitor program progress.
  • Deliver safety meeting topics appropriate to the current field force.
  • Investigate causes of workplace accidents or illnesses.
  • Conduct root cause analyses of workplace incidents using approved methods, forms, and processes.
  • Maintain workplace schedule on the shared Safety Department calendar.
  • Develop corrective action plans following workplace accidents or illnesses and follow through to completion.
  • Assist with rehabilitation of workers in compliance with Workers’ Compensation and Longshoreman’s Act requirements.
  • Prepare accident reports, workplace injury trend analyses, OSHA forms, and initiatives for controlling hazardous conditions.
  • Provide testimony in court and write policies, procedures, and manuals related to occupational health and safety.
  • Attend local, industry safety meetings as a member of groups such as ASSE, GCSTG, etc.
  • Perform other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Demonstrate ability to provide management, organize safety activities, and provide customer support and relations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking, and strong organizational, detail-oriented, and interpersonal skills.
  • Project management skills, facility in managing and prioritizing projects with multiple competing deadlines, and ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently, under supervision, and in a team-based, goal-oriented environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel.
  • Comfortable working with diverse populations, with sensitivity to disability issues.
  • Proficient knowledge of safety strategies, laws, and regulations.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and internet.
  • Detail-oriented and proactive with minimal supervision.
  • Effective team player with broad interpersonal skills.
  • Professional partner with senior management.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • 3–5 years relevant HSE supervisory experience.
  • Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Human Resources, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Self‑starter with good analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Frequently:
    Sitting for long periods, handling, fingering, talking, hearing, and vision at 20 inches or less.
  • Occasionally:
    Standing, walking, reaching, climbing ladders or stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling.
