Job DescriptionThe Nurse Practitioner examines and treats patients independently and in collaboration with other healthcare professionals following established standards and practices. Ensures proper illness and injury care, disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Relies on education, experience, professional training, and judgment to accomplish responsibilities. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Works under minimal supervision under the direction of the collaborating physician, as appropriate.
May lead and direct the work of others within scope of practice.
- Technical Tasks: Demonstrates competence in all aspects of practice within the scope of a neonatal nurse practitioner. Uses appropriate resources to meet patient and family healthcare needs.
- Maintains current knowledge through literature, workshops, seminars, and professional memberships.
- Creates and maintains accurate records and reports consistent with regulatory requirements.
- Adheres to Standards of Nursing Practice and develops Quality Assurance indicators.
- Assists in the patient billing process and provides relevant information for office visits.
- Demonstrates proficiency in referral processes and multidisciplinary communication.
- Operates office equipment safely and efficiently.
- Completes office visit requests, outside testing, and routine information promptly.
- Participates in Quality Assurance and Infection Control programs.
- Critical Thinking: Assesses situations, considers options, and chooses appropriate actions. Performs reassessments and develops care plans. Handles emergencies effectively.
- Communicates effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Plans and evaluates nursing care within scope of practice and guidelines.
- Collaborates on comprehensive care plans and develops standards for nursing care and quality assurance.
- Participates in medical care, health data collection, and patient education.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Performs organizational Service Standards focused on Values, Service, and Quality.
Education:
Graduate of an approved professional school of nursing. Completion of State Board-approved Nurse Practitioner Course and licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
