Neurology Nurse Practitioner – Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System

The Nurse Practitioner Clinic examines and treats patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other health care professionals. The role ensures proper illness and injury care, disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Working under minimal supervision, the practitioner maintains a high degree of creativity and latitude, and may lead and direct work of others within scope of practice.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate competence in all aspects of practice within the scope of a family or adult nurse practitioner, using appropriate resources to meet or exceed patient and family health care needs.
  • Maintain competency and accuracy in all work tasks, consistently providing nursing care according to established practice guidelines and standards of care.
  • Identify common and unusual problems for patient populations to develop expected outcomes.
  • Keep current knowledge of nursing principles through literature, workshops, seminars, and professional memberships.
  • Create and maintain accurate records, legal documents, and reports of client care consistent with regulatory agencies.
  • Adhere to Standards of Nursing Practice and assist in developing Quality Assurance indicators.
  • Assist in patient billing processes and provide information to office personnel.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the referral process and multidisciplinary resource use, maintaining communication with other health care providers.
  • Operate routine office equipment safely and consistently.
  • Complete requests for office visits, outside patient testing, and routine information accurately and timely.
  • Apply corporate policies regarding fire and safety, hazardous materials, and infection control.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Infection Control Programs.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking: assess situations, consider alternatives, and choose appropriate action.
  • Assess, diagnose, develop plan of care, and monitor patient outcomes in a timely manner.
  • Request and assist collaborative physicians in developing patient plans of care.
  • Reassess patients and document progress and plan revisions.
  • Facilitate psychosocial problem resolution and involve appropriate health care personnel.
  • Differentiate between normal and abnormal findings on history and physical exams, recording findings accurately.
  • Prioritize work, assist others, and use extra time creatively.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic measures for emergencies such as cardiac, respiratory arrest, burns, and other acute situations.
  • Implement emergency measures for patient stabilization during apnea, shock, or cardiac arrest.
  • Communicate courtesy and professionalism to patients, visitors, and families.
  • Apply problem‑solving skills and improve technical, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Communicate plan of medical management to collaborative physicians when appropriate.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care within scope of practice and collaborative guidelines.
  • Utilize independent judgment in evaluation, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
  • Plan individualized patient care that reflects continuity and family involvement.
  • Develop Standards of Nursing Care and practice criteria for Quality Assurance.
  • Collaborate with personnel to develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive patient plans.
  • Use interviewing skills to obtain data from complex patients and formulate resolution plans.
  • Participate in medical care by assessing and documenting health history, physical assessments, and screening procedures.
  • Set priorities with appropriate personnel for patient care matters.
  • Assess the health care delivery system for policy and procedure improvements.
  • Initiate or modify medical treatment as needed.
  • Assess the quality of nursing and medical care provided and communicate improvements.
  • Assess health status of patients proactively via visits or telephony.
  • Assist in developing teaching plans for patients and families.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Consistently perform organizational service standards focused on values, service, and quality.
Qualifications

Education – Graduate of an accredited professional school of nursing. Completion of State Board of Nursing approved Nurse Practitioner Course and license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
