Job Title: Nursing Shift Coordinator – PRE/GI
Department: Preoperative Services / Gastrointestinal Procedures
Reports To: Manager of Clinical Operations
Position SummaryThe Nursing Shift Coordinator is responsible for overseeing daily clinical operations within the Preoperative (PRE) and Gastrointestinal (GI) areas during assigned shifts. This role ensures safe, efficient patient care, optimal staff utilization, and adherence to organizational policies and standards. The coordinator acts as a resource for clinical staff, facilitates communication among team members, and supports patient flow to maintain high-quality outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Operational Oversight
- Coordinate patient flow for PRE and GI areas to ensure timely procedures and minimize delays.
- Monitor staffing levels and adjust assignments based on patient acuity and volume.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for resolving operational issues during the shift.
- Clinical Leadership
- Provide guidance and support to nursing staff, ensuring compliance with evidence‑based practices.
- Assist with complex patient care situations and elevate concerns appropriately.
- Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
- Communication & Collaboration
- Act as liaison between physicians, anesthesia providers, and nursing staff to facilitate smooth operations.
- Communicate changes in schedule, patient status, or staffing needs promptly.
- Quality & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to infection control, regulatory standards, and hospital policies.
- Participate in audits, safety checks, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Administrative Duties
- Document shift activities, staffing adjustments, and incident reports as required.
- Support onboarding and mentoring of new staff members.
- Education: Current RN license; BSN preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of perioperative or GI nursing experience; leadership experience preferred.
- Certifications: BLS required; ACLS preferred.
- Skills: Strong communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills; ability to lead and motivate a team.
