- Patrol facilities and property, make observations to detect unauthorized persons, activities, unsafe conditions, and ensure life safety standards are maintained.
- Maintain appropriate communication with supervisors, fellow officers, the Security Operations Center, and law enforcement to report crimes, incidents, and safety‑related irregularities.
- Intervene in disputes using verbal de‑escalation techniques to diffuse potentially violent situations involving patients, employees, or visitors.
- Investigate and document incidents through written and electronic formats: safety hazards, incidents, and criminal activities to Public Safety Leadership.
- Control access to restricted property and verify the admittance of authorized individuals.
- Escort people or property to desired destinations when safety is a concern.
- Assist with parking and security during special events, provide visitors with directions and security information, and perform dispatcher duties when assigned.
- Participate in non‑security activities approved by Security Management, such as transporting bodies from the morgue, patient escort, elevator recall checks, monthly fire extinguisher, panic alarm, and intercom checks, and special event setups.
- Interview and investigate individuals involved in suspicious or illegal activities.
- Detain unauthorized individuals in compliance with state and federal law; officers may use force when appropriate to protect patients, staff, and visitors.
- Two (2) consecutive years of armed security, military, or law‑enforcement experience within the last 7 years.
- Possess or have: POST certification; or be registered through a military DD214 or current Military ; or hold federal, state, or local firearms licensing (Department of Homeland Security, NASA, NRA, GBI, or Secretary of State). All active, reserve, retired, or honorably discharged military personnel meet the licensing/certification requirement.
- Successfully complete the Basic Security Officer and Firearms course mandated by the Secretary of State within 3 months post‑hire.
- Successfully complete training to carry non‑lethal weapons such as a Taser (CED) and/or a baton within 3 months post‑hire.
- Possess a valid driver’s license with no recent serious traffic violations.
- Pass a psychological exam.
- Obtain IAHSS Basic certification within 12 months.
- Obtain a BLS Certification within 12 months.
- Complete FEMA IS 100, 200, 700 & 800 within 6 months.
