Restaurant Floor Manager

Star Noodle located on the ocean in Lahaina is now open at its new location on Front Street next door to its sister restaurant Aloha Mixed Plate. Star Noodle is an award-winning restaurant for over a decade offering fresh noodles, sake cocktails and Asian-inspired share plates. Star Noodle continues to be one of Maui's most popular eateries, as well as a great place to work with a fabulous view.

Responsibilities

The Restaurant Floor Manager is responsible for every aspect of the guest's and staff's experience. Duties include training staff, greeting guests, resolving customer complaints, providing hands-on help to service teams, leading daily pre-shifts with staff, identifying and maintaining supply pars, participating in staff and management meetings, establishing and maintaining good communication and relationships with staff, and knowing regular customers by name and tracking their preferences.

Example of Job Tasks:

  • Assign duties, responsibilities and workstations to employees in accordance with work requirements
  • Estimate ingredients and supplies required to maintain flexible pars – based on business demands
  • Analyze operational problems such as waste, theft, and over portioning and communicate/suggest procedures to alleviate these problems
  • Maintain an updated study guide
  • Recommend measures for improving work procedures and worker performance to increase service quality, efficiency, and enhance job safety
  • Create weekly work schedules
Qualifications
  • Restaurant experience strongly preferred
  • Has worked in a high-volume restaurant service environment
  • Has an appreciation for and working knowledge of really good food
  • Provides leadership that inspires teamwork, generates energy, enthusiasm, and drives results
  • Has a reputation for excellent relationships with customers, vendors, floor and Kitchen staff
  • Has the ability to design, implement, and continuously improve the systems and procedures that lead to success
  • Has experience in the training and development of staff members
  • Is self-directed and able to work independently, as well as be an integral member of the management team
  • Has the ability to deliver a positive experience to every customer
  • Can work holidays, weekends, events, and other peak periods of the restaurant
  • Can work 40 hours a week

Performance Expectations

The Restaurant Manager is responsible for every aspect of the guests’ and staff’s experience and reports to the Restaurant General Manager. Participate in training and performance reviews for service staff, following the standards set for the Hui and using the passport as a base guide. Adjusts environment, music and lighting, and temperature as needed to maintain the appropriate atmosphere and service levels.

Resolves any customer complaints that are “passed up” from staff and/or asks for help from the Restaurant General Manager or Corporate General Manager. Provides hands‑on help if needed by any of the service teams, including facilitating the resolution of conflicts between or within teams. Greets guests and delivers a positive experience to each. Knows regulars by name and tracks their seating and dining preferences.

Passes all training requirements required of front-line staff positions within 6 months. Helps maintain inventory of service products, glassware, silver, uniforms, and bar inventory. Leads service staff in cleaning and maintaining all front-of-the-house areas, furniture, equipment, and fixtures, coordinating with the Chef and cleaning crew. Updates Point of Sale systems as needed. Leads daily pre-shifts and attends monthly staff, management, hui, and company meetings.

Establishes and maintains good communication and a positive working relationship with other leadership members within and outside the Hui.
