ENGINEERING SPECIALIST - DRAFTSMAN

This is the fourth of six levels in the Engineering Support & Surveying series. Incumbents perform paraprofessional, skilled tasks in support of engineering projects. Responsibilities may include testing construction materials; monitoring construction processes; assessing the status of Parish infrastructure; completing drawings, maps and related documents; obtaining permits from regulatory institutions; issuing utility permits; and providing information to the public.
Responsibilities- Lead and participate in a variety of land survey work.
- Review, track, and maintain plan designs and/or other related engineering documents. Prepare plan review comments, monitor changes, and prepare recommendations based on findings.
- Issue and obtain necessary permits for construction projects.
- Test and inspect construction materials; prepare documents and reports summarizing findings.
- Perform routine inspections of sites and infrastructure to gather information and monitor progress.
- Operate a variety of specialized tools and equipment.
- Maintain logs and records related to daily activities; maintain databases and files.
- Respond to requests for information from the general public; document and disseminate findings.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
This position may require supervisory responsibilities.
Education and ExperienceCertificate in drafting, surveying, construction, inspection or a related field; and High School Diploma or general education degree (GED); and four years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Licensing Requirements- Valid Driver's License as per State law or requirement.
- Preferred Bridge Inspection Certification.
- Preferred Asphalt Plant Technician Certification.

- Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
- Medium Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. - Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperatures.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving traffic; high, precarious places; and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
