Responsibilities
  • Utilizes the approved curriculum. Develops clearly stated course objectives and learning outcomes. Ensures the objectives and content of the courses taught are current.
  • Supports department assessment initiatives.
  • Uses and updates the required course management system.
  • Meets deadlines and evaluates student work in a timely manner including submitting Show/No Show reports, midterm grades, and final grades.
  • Understands and adheres to all applicable Louisiana Community and Technical College System policies, as well as those policies and procedures in the SOWELA Technical Community College Faculty Handbook.
  • Understands and adheres to all laws pertaining to disclosure of student records.
  • Teaching and Direct Instructional Activities
    • Responsible for directing, evaluating, and reporting student progress toward course objectives and for the periodic review and updating of course material.
    • Course materials are prepared using evidence-based resources (textbooks, instructional aids, online resources, and materials) to meet the outlined course learning objectives.
    • Teaching plans are organized and available for course presentation.
    • Course time is organized to be accomplished in the allotted time.
    • Instruction provided to individual students and groups appropriate to the needs and requirements of activities being performed.
    • Attends class on time and if unable to attend ensures alternate method of course delivery is available for students.
    • Able to deliver course content in a clear, concise manner that enhances student learning.
    • Demonstrates varied methods of course content delivery and use of instructional aids.
    • Provides adequate resources that enable students to successfully complete assignments.
    • Content expert in subject matter.
    • Promotes discussion among students as well as learning and individual initiative.
    • Provides constructive feedback in a timely manner on tests and assignments.
    • Provides fair grading of student course work.
    • Assists with recording/tracking student completion, placement and retention rates.
  • Service to Students, Department, Division or College
    • Maintains office hours as required.
    • Submits reports and performs required record-keeping functions in a timely and dependable manner.
    • Assists with measurement of program and course student learning outcomes.
    • Professionally represents the institution in college-related outreach activities.
    • May serve on advisory boards/committees.
    • May apply academic expertise in the local, state or national community.
    • May sponsor student activities or groups.
    • Participates in workshop and seminars.
    • Assists students with advising and counseling activities related to academic, career and job placement areas.
  • Professional Development Activities
    • Attends conferences, seminars and workshops that enhance expertise in areas of teaching responsibilities.
    • Participates in professional organizations.
    • Develops and maintains professional and collegial relationships.
    • Communicates on professional matters with media, government agencies and other professional bodies when asked.
Required Education

Master’s degree in biology or master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in biology or related area with an emphasis on anatomical & physiological course work. Applicants must meet credentialing guidelines for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

Required Experience
  • Successful experience in post-secondary teaching is preferred.
  • Successful experience in distance-learning experience is preferred.
  • Successful experience in teaching hybrid and/or compressed video courses is preferred.
