Duties and Responsibilities- Understand and adhere to all applicable Louisiana Community and Technical College System policies and those in the SOWELA Technical Community College Faculty Handbook.
- Understand and adhere to all laws pertaining to disclosure of student records.
- Understand and adhere to the professional scope, standards, codes, rules and regulations of Professional Governing Bodies:
- American Nurses Association
- Louisiana State Board of Nursing
- Nurses Code of Ethics
- Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing
- Teaching and Direct Instructional
Activities:- Prepare course materials using evidence-based resources (textbooks, instructional aids, online resources, and materials).
- Organize teaching plans and make them available for course presentation.
- Organize course time to be accomplished in the allotted time.
- Provide instruction to individual students and groups appropriate to the needs and requirements of activities.
- Attend class on time; if unavailable, ensure an alternate method of course delivery is available for students.
- Deliver course content in a clear, concise manner that enhances student learning.
- Demonstrate varied methods of course content delivery and use of instructional aids.
- Provide adequate resources that enable students to successfully complete assignments.
- Act as a content expert in subject matter.
- Promote discussion among students as well as learning and individual initiative.
- Provide constructive feedback in a timely manner on tests and assignments.
- Provide fair grading of student course work.
- Oversee students’ clinical practice:
- Ensure clinical site allows students to gain clinical experience for course content and enhance clinical judgment.
- Orient self and students to clinical facility policies and procedures.
- Evaluate student performance in the clinical setting.
- Participate in pre- and post- conference experiences.
- Service to Students, Department, Division or College:
- Maintain office hours as required.
- Submit reports and perform required record-keeping functions in a timely and dependable manner.
- Participate in School of Nursing and Allied Health (SoNAH) monthly meetings and standing committees as assigned; may include serving as committee chair.
- Accept SoNAH service assignments such as recruiting, pinning and graduation activities.
- Professionally represent the institution in college-related outreach activities.
- Serve on advisory boards/committees as needed.
- Apply academic expertise in the local, state or national community.
- Sponsor student activities or groups.
- Participate in workshops and seminars.
- Assist students with advising and counseling activities related to academic, career and job placement areas.
- Professional Development
Activities:- Attend conferences, seminars and workshops that enhance expertise in teaching responsibilities.
- Participate in professional organizations.
- Act as a role model for nursing students.
- Develop and maintain professional and collegial relationships.
- Communicate on professional matters with media, government agencies and other professional bodies when asked.
- Master’s degree in Nursing or higher.
- Nursing experience of two years in the concentration hired to teach (Medical-Surgical, Maternal Child, Pediatrics, Mental Health).
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to use a computer for composing, storing and retrieving information.
- Proficiency in the use of standard office equipment and networked personal computers.
- Proficiency in a variety of software, including but not limited to Microsoft Office.
- Oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical computations needed to complete job tasks.
- Skilled at planning, organizing, and prioritizing job duties to meet deadlines.
- Maintaining interpersonal professional working relationships at all levels – students, peers, and executives.
