SummarySummary This is the first of two levels in the Emergency Training series. Incumbents coordinate and facilitate emergency response training exercises. Responsibilities may include ensuring the safety of students involved in training exercises; planning specialized training exercises; documenting training efforts; maintaining training props; cleaning training facilities; and updating a website with training information.
Responsibilities- Plans and teaches emergency response training classes and exercises for the department and the public; may plan specialized training exercises as requested.
- Prepares and updates a variety of records which may include grades, skill proficiency records, and/or related records.
- Maintains props and training facilities which include assembling props, cleaning props, repairing equipment, cleaning classrooms, and/or performing related duties.
- Updates department website with information about training events and information.
- May be required to be on-call for emergency situations.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
- Assists thettes Training Center Supervisor in client base expansion programs.
- Responds to incidents in Calcasieu Parish as needed while acting as the "On Call Person" for OHSEP 24 hour call.
- Operates fuel systems (Fuel Person) for training props and serves as Safety Person to ensure the safety of clients.
- Implements maintenance & construction program set by Training Center Supervisor:
Daily maintenance of buildings, grounds and equipment as directed. - Operates firefighting pumps, fire apparatus, fire water systems, power tools, breathing air compressor system, generators and other light equipment; occasionally acts as a backhoe operator or truck driver.
- Maintains consumable supplies and fuel inventories.
- Serves as client liaison during all training sessions at the facility.
This position does require supervisory responsibilities of part‑time employees and training center clients. Assume the responsibilities of the Training Center Supervisor during his/her absence.
Requirements- High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
- One year of specialized training in fire science
- Two years experience as a firefighter and first responder, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
- Valid driver’s license as per state law or requirement.
- Basic Firefighter (NFPA 1403).
- Prefer Firefighter I Certification.
- HAZ‑MAT Operations Certification (preferable).
- Basic 1st Aid, CPR, AED Certification.
- NIMS IC 100, 200, 700, 800; additional NIMS training may be required.
- Prefer Fire Service Instructor 1 & 2.
To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
