Odyssey House Louisiana is seeking a full-time Behavioral Health Technician for our Briscoe Lake Charles Program. The schedule is 6am-6pm, with rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays as needed.

Job Summary

The Behavioral Health Technician provides direct supervision of clients in treatment, working closely with clinical, medical, and residential staff to ensure comprehensive substance abuse treatment services.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Ensure a safe environment for clients
• Exercise therapeutic communication skills
• Take steps to de-escalate distressed clients
• Observe and document client behavior
• Assist with therapeutic and recreational activities
• Monitor clients' physical well-being
• Provide input regarding client progress to the interdisciplinary team
• Oversee facility activities when no professional staff is on duty
• Assess situations related to relapse and provide access to medical care when needed
• Function as client advocate
• Monitor residents' compliance with daily schedules and ensure their safety
• Receive and pass feedback to clinical, medical, and program staff about client activity and behaviors
• Monitor visits from children and family members and provide documentation as requested
• Monitor clients taking medications and complete required documents
• Complete Incident Reports as required
• Assist with planning and organizing therapeutic client activities
• Conduct urine screens and complete required documentation
• Facilitate and supervise client feedback meetings and phone calls
• Facilitate and monitor community or in-house 12-step meetings
• Complete client bed checks and facility security rounds
• Submit shift reports to the BHT Supervisor via email
• Contact the BHT Supervisor in case of a fire or evacuation
• Perform property searches on new clients and clients returning from outside activities
• Assist with program functions, including transportation and monitoring the front desk
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications And Skills

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid Driver's License
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and flexible hours

Preferred:

• Bachelor's Degree in a related field (Social Work, Psychology, Education)
• 3+ years of Behavioral Health Technician experience in Acute Psych
• Knowledge of Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholic Anonymous principles
• 2 years of Behavioral Health Technician experience in Acute Psych and substance abuse treatment
• CPI de-escalation training knowledge
