Phlebotomist

Overview

Apply for the Phlebotomist-Full Time position at Lake Charles Memorial Health System
. We welcome the first 25 applicants to join our dedicated team.

• Collect clinical laboratory samples (blood, urine, specialty collections) using skin puncture, venipuncture, and other techniques.
• Use and maintain Mobile devices and Spectralink phones according to policy.
• Utilize departmental communication platforms and laboratory computer system, collection lists, kiosk system, and pending logs.
• Meet blood culture contamination rate of < 1.0% and rejected specimen rate of < 2% (if applicable).
• Maintain proper hand washing and patient identification using two unique identifiers.
• Assist clerks with receiving specimens, answering the phone, and other duties when available.
• Ensure established turnaround times for STAT, In AM, Timed, and routine orders.
• Implement practices to prevent infection during venipuncture/skin puncture.
• Keep blood drawing trays and equipment clean and well organized.
• Perform specialized collection procedures (cross match blood cultures, glucose tolerance, urine drug screen collection, PKU/T4, therapeutic phlebotomy).

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• 2 years of experience in a similar position (preferred).
• Familiarity with medical terminology (preferred).
• Advanced computer skills.
• Excellent communication skills with patients, family, peers, and medical personnel.
• Ability to read and understand graphs and performance improvement data sheets.

• Frequent standing, walking, sitting, talking, and hearing.
• Occasional lifting or moving up to 10 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Risk of exposure to blood‑borne pathogens and tuberculosis.
• Moderate noise level in the work environment.
