CNC Machinist (Computer Numeric Controlled Machinist)
We are looking for a Machinist to perform work for our employer‑partner, Northrop Grumman. The role involves setting up and operating a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, planers, and precision grinders to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions. The Machinist will interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determine sequence of operations and number of cuts required;
use machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments; perform shop computations; mark and scribe dimensions; fit and assemble precision parts; and monitor and verify quality in accordance with control procedures. Typically requires completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
- Set up and operate manual and CNC lathes, mills, and precision grinders to make parts from a variety of metals.
- Understand mechanisms, tools, and machines to manufacture parts to exacting tolerances and dimensions.
- Follow blueprints, sketches, engineering specifications, and verbal instructions to determine sequence of operations and methods of setup.
- Use machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments such as Swiss micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, and standard micrometers.
- Communicate with the team about dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds; measure, mark, and clear reference points to lay out stock for machining.
- Fit and assemble precision parts into mechanical equipment.
- Determine material, parts, and equipment required for jobs.
- Monitor and verify dimensions and finish of parts during the machining process.
- Keep the work area neat and clean.
- Complete required paperwork accurately and on a timely basis.
- 5+ years experience on 3‑axis CNC machines; experience on 4‑axis and 5‑axis machines a plus.
- Experience running manual machines and performing set‑ups.
- Experience with MAZATROL and Fanuc (HAAS) controllers preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret production specifications, production diagrams, assembly drawings, and technical specifications.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Experience performing unique set‑ups.
- CAD/CAM experience with Mastercam.
- CAM experience with Solid Works, NX, or Siemens.
- Expertise with Fanuc Mill (HAAS) controls, including 5‑axis simultaneous operation.
