Job Description

Responds to, controls and oversees calls for assistance and alarms. Takes action and intervenes to mitigate situations, protects people and property. Patrols, assesses and secures LCMHS properties, provides escorts and education to internal customers. Enforces criminal ordinances and LCMHS policies, works with law enforcement and other community partners, and carries and uses authorized security weapons.

SUPERVISION

Reports directly to the Security Manager.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Respond to security emergencies, including calls for service, in-progress emergencies, and alarms.
  • Coordinate scheduled emergency drills.
  • Take action and intervene per procedure and protocols to mitigate situations and reduce injury, prevent property damage or loss.
  • Engage in dynamic, potentially violent encounters, using empty-hand control techniques, handcuffs and authorized security weapons according to policy.
  • Investigate and report incidents, and prepare written reports.
  • Respond to behavioral health emergencies, de-escalate, and execute hands-on physical interventions under clinical direction.
  • Patrol and conduct surveillance of LCMHS facilities and properties.
  • Identify, assess and address threats and risks to ensure the safety and security.
  • Provide security escorts for patients, visitors and employees at LCMHS facilities and campuses.
  • Control access to LCMHS facilities and properties.
  • Monitor critical building security systems such as cameras, alarms and access control systems.
  • Maintain and properly operate equipment including radio, weapons, handcuffs, body-worn cameras, emergency vehicles and personal equipment.
  • Detect and interdict criminal activity.
  • Detain or arrest offenders per policy.
  • Partner with law enforcement.
  • Enforce and issue citations for violations of administrative policies such as smoking, visiting, parking and safety and security regulations.
  • Serve as a department liaison to internal partners, community partners and other customers.
  • Provide security, personal safety, workplace violence prevention, and other education to internal customers.
  • Provide assistance to patients, visitors and other customers.
  • Participate in organizational regulatory and security committees; other duties as assigned; may be assigned to work varied hours and locations to meet LCMHS needs.
  • Ability to effectively read, write, and speak in English.

  • Ability to qualify and maintain proficiency with security techniques, tools, equipment, and weapons (defensive tactics, body-worn camera, handcuffs, expandable baton, body-worn camera, radio, conducted energy device and aerosol subject restraint).
  • All other tasks and duties as assigned.
Education and Work Experience
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Previous security, law enforcement or military experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Ability to read, write and speak intelligible English; strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills; ability to communicate orally and in written form; detail oriented.
  • Requires emotional stability and maturity; must be adaptable to change, decisive, and demonstrate foresight; exhibits organizational and leadership ability; team oriented with strong interpersonal skills.
