Job Description

Northrop Grumman is seeking experienced aircraft mechanics to support the maintenance program for the Navy E‑6B aircraft, a modified Boeing 707 platform. The aircraft primarily conducts long‑range patrols along the U.S. border and in source and transit zone countries, and performs the TACAMO mission—conveying instructions from the National Command Authority to fleet ballistic missile submarines.

This Service Contract Act position is contingent upon funding and will be hired for any shift.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain, repair, and modify aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty.
  • Maintain and repair aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
  • Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to diagnose equipment malfunctions and restore operation, using blueprints, manufacturer’s manuals, and other technical documentation.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti‑icing, pneudraulic systems, engines, auxiliary power units, and ventilation and heating systems.
  • Repair, replace, and rebuild aircraft structures such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, plumbing, and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet‑metal brakes, welding equipment, rivet guns, and drills.
  • Read and interpret manufacturers’ and airline’s maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repair or replacement.
  • Perform 100‑hour, progressive, isochronal, phase, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections, and examine reciprocating engines for cracked cylinders, oil leaks, and other malfunctions.
  • Inspect jet engine turbine blades for cracks, distortion, corrosion, burn‑out, and other defects; test engine operation with equipment such as ignition analyzers, compression checkers, distributor timers, ammeters, and jet calibration testers to locate the source of malfunction.
Job Duties Require That This Mechanic
  • Have thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures, and replacement of parts.
  • Have a broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair.
  • Have basic knowledge of electrical theory.
  • Be familiar with aircraft‑unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet‑metal brakes, and shears.
  • Replace or repair worn or damaged components such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, engine‑mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment.
  • Remove and reinstall engines from aircraft using a hoist or forklift, disassemble and inspect parts for wear, cracks, and other defects, and reassemble and install the engine.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories.
  • Perform preflight, thru‑flight, and post‑flight maintenance inspections.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
  • Use a variety of manual hand tools such as crimpers, strippers, wire cutters, and heat‑shrink gun.
  • Read and interpret schematics, assembly drawings, process specifications, technical manuals, and written instructions.
Basic Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) and a minimum of 6 years of experience.
  • Ability to work in an approved environment during specified hours.
  • Ability to relocate physically as needed, including travel.
  • Ability to endure a variety of physical conditions and wear respirator or other safety gear.
  • Ability to work in areas that may elicit phobias due to height or closed spaces.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A&P License.
  • Prior E‑6B experience.
  • Ability to obtain or maintain a Secret DoD clearance.
