The Avionics Technician is responsible for performing operational checks, troubleshooting, and repairing avionics and electrical systems on all types of aircraft. The technician must perform a variety of installation and maintenance tasks on avionics hardware and wiring assemblies, working within estimated times and in accordance with applicable HAECO Airframe Services, FAA, and customer standards of quality.
Responsibilities- Perform typical maintenance functions such as cabling, component removal/installation, wire harness removal/installation, fabrication/repair of wire harness assemblies, and continuity checks.
- Determine if work can safely be accomplished if the aircraft is in a power‑on mode and conduct necessary testing if in a power‑on mode.
- Fabricate and install all wiring assemblies and associated mechanical equipment.
- Remove and install avionics systems.
- Follow all applicable specifications to accomplish specific tasks.
- Follow customer aircraft maintenance documentation programs.
- Follow wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, Illustrated Parts Catalog, ATA Codes, Service Bulletins, and Maintenance Manuals.
- Read electrical schematics and use them to troubleshoot and repair aircraft avionics systems.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Be familiar with ESD processes and requirements.
- Be aware of EWIS requirements.
- Efficiently perform tasks.
- Follow all safety procedures and specifications with appropriate PPE.
- Execute required paperwork as work is completed in connection with assigned normal duties.
- Use and operate ground support equipment, as applicable and if qualified, in a safe manner.
- Complete assignments with little or no rework.
- Act as a mentor and help train less experienced avionics technicians.
- Interface effectively with members of management, other departments, and co‑workers.
- Perform other work as instructed by the Avionics Lead or Maintenance Supervisor, if qualified.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must provide own tools as indicated on company tool list.
- English proficiency: read, write, speak, and understand English.
- At least 18 months of experience troubleshooting and effecting avionics repairs on military or commercial transport aircraft, or two or more years of proven performance competence within HAECO.
- Must be able to work in noise levels greater than 85 dB.
- Be able to bend, stoop, kneel, and/or stand for prolonged periods and climb ladders and service stands.
- May be exposed to hazardous chemicals and must use all required safety equipment.
- Must be able to breathe through a full‑face respirator; employees with facial hair will be required to purchase a hood to meet respirator requirements.
- Job requires participation in the DOT random drug and alcohol testing program.
- Normal or corrected hearing.
- Capable of lifting 50 pounds.
- Minimum visual acuity of 20/40 corrected.
- FAA Airframe and Powerplant or FAA Airframe certificate.
- FCC License.
