The salary range for this position is $34.50 - $55.20 (Hourly Rate). Placement within the range depends on relevant work experience and internal equity. For union positions, placement follows the collective bargaining agreement.

The Registered Nurse (BSN) delivers patient‑centered care within the Relationship Based Care model, supporting the PPM core functions. The role reflects Northwestern Medicine’s mission, vision, values, and complies with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act, the Code of Ethics, and all applicable policies and regulations.
Key ResponsibilitiesRelationship to Patient/Family and Community
- Perform comprehensive assessments and document findings.
- Communicate patient condition changes promptly.
- Develop realistic goals and document them as measurable outcomes.
- Prioritize patient needs and nursing diagnoses.
- Collaborate with patients, families, and the health‑care team to plan and document care.
- Assess discharge readiness and make appropriate referrals, including palliative care.
- Evaluate patient response to interventions and adjust the plan of care.
- Ensure discharge instructions and medication reconciliation are completed.
Patient Education, Ethics, and Diversity
- Support patient/family/spiritual/cultural needs in teaching.
- Identify learning levels and document education records.
- Use teach‑back methodology for medication education.
- Utilize Krames for patient education.
- Incorporate culture vision resources into care planning.
- Treat patients, families, and staff with respect and dignity.
- Recognize significant others’ contributions in care plans.
- Adhere to ethical standards of practice and seek ethics consultations when needed.
Evidence‑Based Practice and Research
- Implement interventions based on the evidence‑based care plan.
- Use resources such as Ovid/Joanna Briggs, Up to Date, and Culture Vision for research.
- Participate in clinical ladder projects or unit‑level process improvement.
Healing Safe Environment
- Use barcoding for medication administration.
- Protect patient health, safety, and rights.
- Provide accurate bedside shift reports.
- Conduct hourly rounds with patient‑care technicians.
- Maintain a safe environment of excellence.
- Meet unit‑ and organization‑wide quality metrics.
- Prevent pressure ulcers, falls, CAUTI, and central line infections.
- Act as a safety facilitator or quality resource as requested.
- Participate in unit huddles.
Shared Leadership
- Supervise patient‑care or support technicians and maintain accountability.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and resolve conflicts.
- Serve as a charge nurse or preceptor when assigned.
- Lead clinical activities when patient conditions change.
- Mentor new staff and students.
- Provide feedback during peer evaluations.
- Collaborate across hospital services.
- Identify barriers to effective practice and communicate with leadership.
Resource Utilization
- Document appropriate care orders for all admissions.
- Adhere to supply charging protocols.
- Participate in value‑based initiatives.
- Commit to decreasing utilization over time.
Use of Technology
- Ensure complete electronic and paper documentation.
