Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director and in accordance with the strategic plan, the Senior Youth & Family Director is responsible for all aspects of non-aquatic programs that serve youth and families. The position is responsible for overall relationship development with youth, teens, and families. The Senior Youth & Family Director oversees Child Watch staff and operations, YBASE, the youth and family program.
Leads the School Age Childcare and Preschool Director, Camp Director, and Montessori Director. Develops and implements comprehensive program plans that nurture the potential of youth, teens, and families. Incumbent must role model the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, and work daily to develop relationships with members, participants, staff, and others. Program areas assigned will include preschool enrichment programs, youth and family programs, preschools, school days out, and summer day camp.
Must exhibit excellent relationship-building skills, as well as good written and verbal communication skills. Incumbent must be able to work effectively independently, as well as collaborate with staff in all departments. Additional necessary skills include an understanding of the YMCA mission and the ability to communicate effectively with people of all ages and backgrounds. CPR and First Aid certifications are required, but may be obtained within 90 days of hire.
EssentialFunctions (Youth & Family)
- Build personal and meaningful relations with YMCA staff, members, participants, volunteers, guests, donors, and community schools and churches, etc.
- Work daily to nurture the potential of all youth, teens, and families.
- Develop and implement a variety of programs that nurture potential youth, teens, family, and community needs, including but not limited to: YBASE/Wrap Around Care, Preschool Enrichment Programs, Youth & Family Programs and Montessori and YBase Preschools, School Days Out (holiday and snow days), Summer Day Camp.
- Designing, planning and executing a diverse schedule of youth and family development programs, special events, clubs, night outs, workshops, etc. for all members and community participants.
- Scheduling, planning and oversight of association-wide special events. Seeks out community partnership opportunities and attends association functions and events to promote the Y, its mission and programs.
- Drives strong recruitment, development, and succession planning processes to insure all special events and community partnerships are successful. Develop strategies to motivate staff and volunteers to achieve event or project goals, including budget work and securing donations, ordering, etc.
- Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises assigned staff and volunteers for all special events. Recruits, screens and schedules all YMCA volunteers. Keeps all volunteer records for annual report and audit.
- Identifies and builds relationships with internal and/or external partners or key stakeholders, such as service groups, community organizations, or companies, to support programs or projects.
- Play an active role in the Association’s annual support campaign.
- Maintain accurate records on all employees, including required certifications and trainings, and conduct scheduled performance reviews.
- Be “hands‑on” in program areas.
- Evaluate program effectiveness through observation and program evaluations from participants or parents at least once per year.
- Be responsible for the development and implementation of the assigned department’s budgets. Monitor program budget to meet fiscal objectives. Organize and inventory supplies needed for programs.
- Work as a member of the staff team and work with all in a positive manner; assist in developing and leading special events.
