Function

The Engineering Administrative Assistant provides technical and administrative support to the Engineering Department in a high-volume metal stamping and manufacturing environment. This position plays a critical role in maintaining accurate documentation, supporting new product introductions (NPIs), facilitating engineering change requests (ECRs), and ensuring timely and accurate data entry within the Plex ERP system.

Responsibilities
  • Takes responsibility for part number creation and upkeep, including revision control in ERP system (Plex).
  • Processes engineering change requests (ECR), including initiation, distribution, closing and status updates.
  • Prepares, formats, and maintains engineering documentation including work instructions (WIs), standard operating procedures (SOPs), engineering change requests (ECRs), and new product introduction (NPI) documents.
  • Tracks progress of open ECRs and NPIs, providing status updates to engineers and project leads.
  • Retrieves and verifies customer specification changes per set schedules.
  • Initiates change notices for customer quality alerts, print/spec updates, or manufacturing plan changes.
  • Administrates engineering systems, including Customer Prints, Manufacturing Prints, ECR and Process Improvement.
  • Manages control of internal and external engineering documentation.
  • Prepares and analyzes engineering reports; audits engineering systems and functions.
  • Conducts clerical updates as directed, including data entry, error corrections, and report creation.
  • Creates or updates Work Center Manuals (WCM) or Process Instructions as directed.
  • Updates manufacturing comments or BOM (Bill of Material) as directed.
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of and conformity to Quality System Work Instruction requirements that govern Engineering Assistant operations.
  • Manages and assists in ERP data management/update projects.
  • Maintains or exceeds production standards through organization and planning.
  • Follows and complies with safety rules, regulations, and work instructions.
  • Accurately completes all required documentation.
  • Meets attendance policy requirements.
  • Contributes to team effort by assisting in areas as needed.
Required Skills
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and process documentation.
  • Excellent technical writing, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Competent with Plex ERP (or similar manufacturing systems).
Education and Experience

Minimum educational requirements listed below may be substituted by relevant experience, learned competencies and/or certifications obtained throughout one’s career.

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, or related field; or equivalent experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment. High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • 3+ years of administrative or technical support experience in a manufacturing or production engineering setting.
Preference given to candidates with
  • CAD & Blueprint reading experience.
  • Knowledge of metal stamping processes and manufacturing terminology.
  • Primarily office-based with occasional time on the production floor.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and use standard office equipment for extended periods.
  • Must wear protective shoes, safety glasses on the production floor and hearing protection while working in/around loud noises.
  • May require use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when in production areas.
