OverviewMohs surgery is a procedure used to treat skin cancer. This surgery involves cutting away thin layers of skin. Each thin layer is examined closely for signs of cancer. The process continues until no signs of cancer remain. Mohs surgery is used to treat basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma, and other less‑common skin cancers.
Responsibilities RN Duties- Support the dermatologist in providing high‑quality medical and cosmetic dermatologic care.
- Assist with clinical procedures such as biopsies, excisions, cryotherapy, intralesional and cosmetic injections.
- Prepare patients and treatment rooms for procedures.
- Administer injections as directed by the physician (e.g., local anesthesia, intralesional, cosmetic injectables).
- Apply and remove dressings, sutures, and wound care materials.
- Document procedures, treatments, and patient interactions accurately in the medical record.
- Perform or assist with cosmetic treatments such as chemical peels, microneedling, and light‑based therapies.
- Operate and maintain laser and energy‑based devices (training provided).
- Educate patients on pre‑ and post‑procedure care and answer questions about cosmetic treatments.
- Greet and prepare patients for evaluation and procedures.
- Obtain and document medical histories and treatment consents.
- Provide patient education on diagnoses, medications, and home care instructions.
- Support the provider in maintaining a high standard of safety and patient satisfaction.
- Assist the physician with medical procedures, including skin biopsies, excisions, cryotherapy, and intralesional or cosmetic injections.

Education and Experience
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- ADN required upon hire; BSN preferred.
- May require specific years of applicable experience to qualify (per department guidelines).
- Approved CPR/BLS certification required within 90 days.
- Other certifications per unit requirements (e.g., ACLS, PALS, PEARS, NRP).
