Position OverviewZephyr Tech is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Avionics Technician to join our Lake Havasu team. The ideal candidate will perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of aircraft avionics and electrical systems on a variety of aircraft types in compliance with FAA regulations and Zephyr Systems' high standards for safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair avionics systems including navigation, communication, autopilot, flight management, and instrumentation systems.
- Perform bench tests and in-flight evaluations of avionics equipment and systems.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, electronic, and avionics system malfunctions using technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic equipment.
- Ensure all avionics work is conducted according to FAA regulations, manufacturer specifications, and company policies.
- Document all maintenance and installation work performed using digital and/or paper systems in accordance with FAA and company standards.
- Perform wire installations, harness fabrication, and connector terminations in accordance with IPC/WHMA standards.
- Conduct functional tests and system calibrations following manufacturer procedures.
- Assist with avionics upgrades, glass cockpit installations, and UAS platform integrations.
- Maintain tools, test equipment, and workspace in an organized, clean, and safe manner.
- Collaborate with engineering teams, project managers, and other maintenance personnel.
- Support certification and conformity inspections for avionics modifications.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to a culture of excellence.
- FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months. (company can assist and provide this certification in house)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in avionics installation, maintenance, or repair (Part 91, Part 135, Part 145, or military avionics background preferred).
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with avionics and electrical systems.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting wiring diagrams, avionics schematics, installation manuals, and technical drawings.
- Familiarity with aircraft records and logbook documentation requirements.
- Experience with avionics test equipment including multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and ramp test sets.
- Strong commitment to safety, precision, and attention to detail.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- FAA Airframe and/or Powerplant (A&P) Certification.
- Experience with modern glass cockpit systems (Garmin G1000/G3000, Honeywell, Collins Aerospace, etc.).
- Experience with UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) or Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) platform avionics.
- Experience working in a Part 145 Repair Station environment.
- Familiarity with ADS-B, TCAS, TAWS, and satellite communication systems.
- Soldering and wire harness fabrication experience.
- Experience with avionics software uploads and database management.
