Summary
An Electrical and Instrumentation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical and instrumentation equipment used in industrial environments. The Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of industrial equipment and processes.
What you’ll do- Install, calibrate, and commission electrical and instrumentation equipment, such as sensors, transmitters, controllers, switches, and variable frequency drives.
- Install and troubleshoot PLC equipment and processes, and be able to install and calibrate plant instrumentation, such as level transmitters, flow meters, and pressure sensors.
- Read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and control wiring diagrams.
- Set up control systems, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
- Conduct routine maintenance on electrical and instrumentation systems to prevent downtime.
- Troubleshoot and repair faults in electrical systems, such as motors, drives, and control circuits.
- Perform adjustments, recalibrations, and replacements of malfunctioning instruments, ensuring optimal performance.
- Test, calibrate, and validate various instruments to ensure they meet accuracy and functionality standards.
- Use diagnostic tools and calibration equipment to monitor and adjust system performance.
- Record calibration data and maintain detailed logs and reports for future reference.
- Adhere to industry safety standards and regulations, including OSHA and NEC.
- Participate in risk assessments, ensuring safe operation of electrical and instrumentation systems.
- Identify potential hazards and take proactive measures to ensure a safe work environment.
- Maintain records of all maintenance, repairs, and calibrations.
- Assist with the creation and updating of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members to improve system efficiency.
- Technical diploma, associate degree, or certification in electrical, instrumentation, or a related field required. Formal technical training or experience in a related field of 2 years may be considered in lieu of this requirement.
- 2+ years in an industrial environment, with hands‑on experience in electrical and instrumentation maintenance.
- Proficiency with PLCs, DCS, and SCADA systems.
- Knowledge of electrical and instrumentation standards (e.g., ISA, NEC).
- Ability to use diagnostic and calibration tools (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes, loop calibrators).
- Strong problem‑solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Detail‑oriented with a focus on accuracy.
- Must be willing and able to work additional hours over 48 when needed.
- Must be willing and able to provide some tools.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and 15‑35 lbs frequently.
