This is full-time, direct-hire, on-site opportunity. The annual salary is $70,000/year.

The Junior Estimator supports the estimating team in preparing accurate, competitive bids for matting and access projects that support power line construction. Working under senior estimators, this person performs quantity take-offs, builds earthwork and building cost estimates in industry software, and helps assemble complete bid packages.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform quantity take-offs from plans, specifications, and addenda for access and civil scopes such as clearing, grading, excavation, temporary access roads, laydown yards, and timber, composite, and steel matting along power line rights-of-way.
  • Use earthwork software to calculate cut and fill volumes, balance sites, and model existing and proposed surfaces.
  • Use building estimating software to build cost estimates, apply labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor pricing, and generate bid summaries.
  • Solicit and compare quotes from subcontractors and suppliers, and keep vendor pricing current.
  • Review drawings and specifications to identify scope, conflicts, and missing information, and submit questions or RFIs.
  • Assist senior estimators with bid assembly, bid-day activities, scope letters, qualifications, and proposal documents.
  • Maintain organized estimate files, take-off records, and historical cost data.
  • Visit project sites with senior staff when needed to verify field conditions.
Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated take-off skills, using digital take-off tools or manual methods, on civil or site construction plans.
  • Working knowledge of earthwork software (for example Trimble Business Center, Civil 3D, or similar) for volumes and grading analysis.
  • Experience with building estimating software (for example HCSS Heavy Bid, Sage Estimating, or similar).
  • Civil construction experience, such as field, project engineering, or estimating work on site development, utilities, heavy civil, or right-of-way access projects; matting or power line construction exposure is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Office, and clear written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work on-site at the Austin, TX or Lakeland, FL office.
Technical Skills Required
  • Earthwork and surface modeling:
Trimble Business Center and Autodesk Civil 3D or equivalent for cut/fill volumes, surface comparison, and grading analysis.
  • Plan review and digital take-off:
For measuring areas, lengths, and counts on PDF plan sets.
  • Estimating:
In-Eight Estimate, HCSS Heavy Bid or Sage Estimating for building bids with labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor costs.
  • Spreadsheets:
Advanced Microsoft Excel (lookups, pivot tables, formulas) for quantity checks, matting counts, and cost summaries.
  • Mapping and route review:
    Google Earth Pro and KMZ/KML files for reviewing power line routes, access roads, and matting layouts;
Global Mapper, ArcGIS, or QGIS is a plus.
  • Drawing review:
Autodesk AutoCAD or Autodesk Viewer for reading CAD drawings and site plans.
  • Office tools:
Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Teams for proposals, scope letters, and bid communication.
Preferred Qualifications and Work Environment
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with subcontractor bidding, unit-price estimating, and bid-day procedures.
  • Interest in growing toward a full Estimator role.
  • Work is primarily in an office setting, with occasional site visits that may involve uneven terrain and outdoor conditions.
  • Extended computer work and occasional overtime are expected around bid deadlines.
