Overview

The Corrugator Lead will report directly to the shift supervisor. Responsibilities include making sure that all crew members are working safely by wearing the required PPE and implementing Lock-Out Tag-Out when required. The primary function is to lead the shift with the supervisor’s direction. This is a working Lead position which may require the Lead to be hands on and fill in any position on the corrugator as needed.

Performance will be evaluated based on KPI performance in Safety, Production, Quality, and Waste.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in startup and shutdown of Corrugator operations.
  • Review Corrugator line-ups at the beginning of the shift to best utilize your assistance.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Check with Clamp Truck Driver to see if any assistance is needed.
  • Ensure that Soak Test is performed on flute and board grade changes and document results in daily log book.
  • Ensure that Pin Adhesion Testing is performed and record results in the log book per customer requirements.
  • Ensure that Caliper Checks are performed every flute and board grade changes and record results in daily log book.
  • Perform Starch Viscosity and Gel Testing and record results in daily log book.
  • Perform Heat Temperature Checks on all heated vessels and enter results in daily log books. Notify Supervisor of any variations that will affect quality.
  • Assist Wet End and Dry End crews troubleshooting board defects.
  • Fill in for vacations and vacancies in all key positions on the Corrugator as needed.
  • Report to Plant Superintendent on Corrugator daily activities in the absence of the Corrugator Supervisor.
  • Attend Maintenance meetings to review open and closed work orders.
  • Attend daily Production meetings.
  • Suggest to assist Maintenance on project work or machine repairs to gain better knowledge of the equipment.
  • Provide training for temporary and full-time employees and other positions as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned by Supervisor or Superintendent.
  • Required Education / Experience
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Prior work experience in the corrugated industry
    • Six (6) months experience on the Dry End of the Corrugator
    • Six (6) months experience as a Wet End Operator of the Corrugator
    Required Skills (Technical, Clerical, Language, etc.)
    • Language Skills – Ability to read and interpret instructions in written or verbal form including operating and maintenance instructions, work instructions, written policies and procedures, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence effectively and accurately. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and employees of the company.
    • Mathematical Skills – Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume, and rate. Must be able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
    • Reasoning Ability – Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
    • Technical Skills – Working knowledge of equipment design and capabilities to support efficient operation, production layouts, product quality specifications, and quality standards.
    • Leadership Attributes – Time management, ability to lead meetings, strong communication and teaching skills, crisis management, professional appearance, and consistent leadership style with professional assertiveness.
    • Employee relations skills – Active listening, performance appraisal, coaching and delegation, conflict resolution, and motivational skills.
    Physical Demands
    • Regularly stand for the shift.
    • Walk for the shift and use upper body movement as needed.
    • Lifting and moving materials safely as required.
    • Ability to use hands to finger, feel, and reach; operate tools and equipment.
    • Stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling as needed.
    • Push rolls weighing up to 4,000 pounds.
    • Visual requirements include close, color, distance, depth, and peripheral vision.
    Work Environment

    The work environment may include wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the plant is usually loud.
