Head Coach – Football

Southeastern University (Lakeland Main Campus) – senior football coach position.

Job Summary

The Head Coach will coach, mentor the team, supervise assistant coaches, handle recruiting, collaborate with the Athletic Director and other coaches, and perform other duties as assigned. The role supports the Christian mission of SEU.

Essential Duties
  • Oversee and execute the responsibilities of a head coach of a sport at SEU
  • Attend all practices, games, and recruiting functions
  • Plan and execute daily meetings and practice activities
  • Actively recruit prospective student-athletes to SEU
  • Support the Christian mission of SEU
  • Adhere to all applicable NAIA, Sun Conference, and institutional rules

Education

Required:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in a sports‑related discipline or a master's degree.

Experience

Required:

3‑5 years of previous coaching experience in the sport.

Preferred: 3‑5 years previous head coaching experience at the college level in the sport.

  • Academic Excellence – set and maintain high expectations for team and individual GPA, retention, and graduation; provide academic support for struggling athletes.
  • Competitiveness – demonstrate improving and sustained competitive excellence within the Sun Conference and the NAIA.
  • Team Player – demonstrate emotional intelligence, cooperation, communication, and a positive, coachable attitude.
  • Budget Oversight – manage the program budget within fiscal limits and scholarship allocation.
  • Conduct of the Team – set and enforce high standards for conduct in residence halls, off campus, during travel, and competition.
  • Recruiting – recruit mission‑fit student‑athletes who compete at a high level and have academic success; students need not be Christians, but the culture offers accountability and opportunities for spiritual encounters.
  • Professionalism – exhibit professional behavior during practice and competition, adhere to deadlines, and maintain department policy compliance.
  • Fundraising – raise funds in support of the program, when necessary.
  • Compliance – be familiar with and comply with NAIA bylaws and The Sun Conference.
  • Professional Development – seek opportunities to enhance knowledge of the game through clinics and other development.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned, including supervision of assistants, attendance at staff meetings, committee service, special projects, etc.
Work Environment

All employees are responsible for maintaining an environment free from discrimination, intimidation, harassment, including sexual harassment.

This position is considered non‑essential for the purposes of Emergency Response.

Physical Requirements

Standing for long periods and occasional lifting and moving of objects may be required.

Travel

Yes – approximately 50% during the season, 25% out of season.

Schedule

40‑60 hours in‑season, 40 hours out of season. Football coaches are 12‑month salaried positions.

Training

All new hires and employees transferring to a new position will have a 90‑day probationary period with required compliance training in department policies and procedures.

Safety
  • Employees are responsible for completing tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Report unsafe conditions or near‑miss incidents to supervisor and Risk Management.
  • Report work‑related injuries to Security and Human Resources; if life or limb is at risk, dial 911. Emergency employees must report for or remain at work unless otherwise instructed.
Screening

All full‑time positions are security‑sensitive and require background checks. Drivers must pass an MVR and meet SEU insurance requirements.
