The Coaching Specialist is responsible for leading the strategic development and delivery of Taylor’s sports performance coaching ecosystem, with a focus on holistic athlete development and excellence in competitive sports. This role designs and implements advanced coaching methodologies, integrates sports science principles, and ensures athletes are prepared physically, mentally, and strategically for peak performance. By fostering strong relationships with government agencies, national sports bodies, and industry partners, the Coaching Specialist positions Taylor’s as a recognised leader in both national and international sporting arenas.

Beyond competitive sport, the role contributes to the broader student experience through inclusive sports, wellness, and recreational programmes, cultivating a campus culture that values health, fitness and recreation. The Coaching Specialist also serves as a mentor to student‑athletes and leaders, supporting their development on and off the field while ensuring alignment with the university’s strategic priorities, graduate capabilities and student engagement goals.

RESULT AREAS / RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Team Taylor’s and Student Coaching Performance Coaching & Athlete Development
  • Coaching Framework Development – Design, implement, and continuously refine a comprehensive coaching framework for Team Taylor’s, incorporating physical training, skill mastery, mental conditioning, nutrition, and leadership growth.
  • Performance Management – Apply data‑driven monitoring and regular performance evaluations to ensure optimal athlete readiness for local, national, and international competitions.
  • Coaching Team Oversight – Recruit and manage a network of reputable sport‑specific coaches to ensure coaching standards align with Taylor’s values, ethical practices, and competitive aspirations, while also cultivating potential internal candidates into capable coaches to build a strong and sustainable network of internal coaching expertise.
  • Sports Science Integration – Leverage sports psychology and injury prevention practices to optimise athlete well‑being and competitive performance.
Competitive Strategy & Institutional Representation
  • Competition Readiness – Lead the strategic planning and preparation for tournaments, including skill development, match strategies, and logistical arrangements.
  • Stakeholder Engagement – Actively represent Taylor’s in forums, partnerships, and events with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, sports federations, and relevant industry bodies.
  • Brand Elevation – Spearhead initiatives that enhance Taylor’s visibility and credibility in the sports sector, positioning the institution as a consistent contender in key competitions.
2. Campus‑Wide Sports & Wellness Events

Plan, execute, and evaluate campus‑wide sports, fitness and recreational programmes, such as Inter‑Faculty Games, Sports & Fitness Week, and Wellness Challenges, promoting inclusive participation and student engagement. Collect and report on event participation data, impact stories, and feedback. Use insights to inform future programming and align with institutional goals for student experience and wellness.

3. University Sports Teams Coordination

Serve as the Team Manager / Coach for designated university sports teams, overseeing athlete registration, tournament submissions, and compliance with league or regulatory requirements. Coordinate all aspects of team logistics for inter‑university or external competitions, including match schedules, coaching assignments, travel and accommodation, medical coverage, and gear distribution. Support and monitor ongoing training and development programmes for athletes. Ensure regular, well‑structured coaching sessions are conducted in collaboration with appointed sports coaches and trainers.

Work closely with student clubs, societies, and the general student body to identify and scout new athletic talent, either through organised try‑outs, open applications, or intramural competitions.
