Packaging Engineer – Ocean Spray Cranberries

Position Location:
hybrid role based in Lakeville, MA, with Mondays and Fridays remote. Travel up to 30% to manufacturing facilities.
- Plan and execute R&D package development activities for new and existing packages.
- Provide dynamic packaging support and leadership to projects from inception to launch and support related initiatives.
- Work with functional business, supply chain, and operations partners to develop and prove packaging systems for beverage and food products.
- Identify and implement packaging improvements for existing products and processes.
- Design, develop and execute packaging solutions that meet consumer expectations, cost targets, quality, and supply‑chain requirements while considering plant‑operations impact.
- Serve as R&D packaging technical lead on cross‑functional project teams.
- Organize, plan, develop, coordinate, and direct R&D packaging development projects from concept to commercialization, managing technical timelines and multiple projects with competing deadlines.
- Conduct hands‑on bench and pilot‑scale tests.
- Conduct packaging commissioning and provide manufacturing support for new and existing packaging processes.
- Anticipate and solve problems arising from processing food and/or beverage products.
- Interact with other departments and communicate technical information to all levels, including presentations and technical reports.
- Create, design, and develop testing plans to assess packaging performance parameters.
- Identify opportunities for intellectual‑property protection and communicate to legal and project teams.
- Develop, create, and maintain packaging specifications, test methods, and operating standards.
- Work closely with external vendors to develop prototypes and define packaging specifications.
- Maintain knowledge of emerging packaging technologies and identify opportunities for the company.
- Bachelor’s Degree in packaging science, engineering, or related field (required).
- At least 2 years of experience in packaging related field.
- Highly organized, self‑starter, and accountable.
- Ability to design, plan, and manage multiple projects simultaneously to deliver value‑added solutions within time and cost parameters.
- Strong technical skills in analytics and data collection.
- Ability to develop prototypes meeting consumer and operational objectives.
- Collaborative, creative, and effective communicator.
- Knowledge of packaging materials such as corrugated, flexible plastics, glass, plastic bottles, or paper.
- Proficiency with MS Office and industry software (CAPE/TOPS, Adobe, Jump, Minitab, or similar).
Bachelor’s or University Degree (required).
Work ExperienceAt least 1 year of experience.
Annual Salary$79,400 – $109,230
