The City of Lakeville is seeking a versatile and proactive IT Technician to join our IT team. In this role, you will be the boots on the ground for our digital infrastructure, ensuring that city staff have the hardware, software, and support they need to serve our community effectively.

From troubleshooting complex system issues to assisting with budget planning and physical cabling, this position offers a dynamic mix of technical problem‑solving and hands‑on maintenance.

2026 anticipated starting salary range is $38.24 – $41.17

Key Responsibilities
  • User Support:
    Provide top‑tier help desk support (in‑person and remote) for hardware, software, and system training.
  • System Maintenance:
    Install, repair, and troubleshoot PC hardware, peripheral equipment, and network components.
  • Infrastructure Support:
    Assist with cabling/wiring projects across various City buildings and support shared resource systems.
  • Continuity:
    Serve as a backup for the IT Systems Architect and IT Specialist, and participate in an on‑call rotation for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Provide installation of software applications, PC hardware, and system training.
  • Provide technical support to end users by analyzing, troubleshooting, and implementing solutions to a wide variety of computer system hardware and software issues.
  • Provide help desk support for staff on system operational issues by phone or in person.
  • Gain basic knowledge and understanding of systems maintained by the City and provide assistance when required.
  • Assist in the development of the City’s budget for the technology system needs and maintain a complete and current system inventory.
  • Communicate with vendors/consultants when needed to resolve issues.
  • Provide input on products, services, and vendors to meet the computing needs of the organization.
  • Assist with cabling and wiring functions for information systems at various City buildings.
  • Perform other duties as apparent or assigned.
  • Provide on‑call coverage evenings, weekends, and holidays for IT‑related issues.
Relationships and Contacts
  • Provides technical assistance to city staff; responding to equipment/system problems in a timely manner to effectively resolve problems that occur by the system or the user.
  • Must be capable of communicating and maintaining effective working relationships with coworkers, end users, and vendors.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Knowledge of principles and practices in computer hardware and software, network, and telecommunication systems. Ability to explore and learn new technology.
  • Ability to support both desktop and shared resource systems.
  • Ability to repair, replace, and install equipment as needed.
  • Ability to listen to others for understanding of their needs and situations and communicate effectively, both orally and in written form, to assure quality application development for the City of Lakeville.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force.
  • Work regularly requires using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires sitting and speaking or hearing and occasionally requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting.
  • Work has standard vision requirements.
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
  • Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm’s length, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.
  • Work is generally in a quiet location (e.g. library, private offices).

Two‑year degree or certificate in computer operations, information systems or related field.
Three years related work experience.
Experience in multiple platforms;
Windows, and DOS. Linux and Unix experience desired.
Valid driver’s license.
Must be able to successfully clear a criminal background check.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Microsoft Certification.
  • Experience of Cisco networking equipment.
  • Experience of VMWare.
  • Experience with mobile wireless equipment.
  • Experience with police video equipment and software (i.e. body cameras, video recording and storage, evidence documentation systems, ticket writer, etc.)
