The City of Lakeville seeks a skilled Parks Maintenance II worker to maintain and improve our city's parks and recreational facilities. This position requires a wide range of skills:
- Facility Maintenance: Repairing and maintaining park buildings, equipment, and infrastructure.
- Groundskeeping: Mowing, fertilizing, and irrigating turf areas.
- Trail Maintenance: Plowing, sweeping, and repairing trails for various outdoor activities.
- Winter Maintenance: Snow removal and ice rink maintenance.
- Construction and Installation: Building and installing park amenities, such as playgrounds, picnic areas, and trails.
- Maintenance of public buildings within the parks including but not limited to: roof repair, electrical, plumbing, heating, carpentry, painting, winterizing and vandalism repair.
- Park development and construction including but not limited to: construction of hockey rinks, picnic tables, fences, playground equipment, trails, drainage and irrigation.
- Maintenance of multi‑purpose, hiking, ski, nature, bike, horse and snowmobile trails including but not limited to: sweeping, plowing, sign maintenance, trimming, and asphalt repairs.
- Turf management involving mowing, trimming, fertilizing, weed control, seeding, sodding, irrigation and aeration.
- General knowledge of various athletics and the maintenance methods to effectively maintain turf athletic fields, baseball and softball fields.
- Winter maintenance such as shoveling and snow plowing of streets, trails, parking lots and sidewalks.
- Ice rink maintenance such as: flooding, shoveling, brooming, painting of lines, patching and cleaning.
- Have the availability to assist with any emergencies as required by any maintenance division in the City on short notice during non‑scheduled work hours.
- Perform preventative equipment maintenance on common parks equipment.
- Perform general maintenance and care of trees and shrubbery including but not limited to: fertilizing, watering, wrapping, pruning, stump grinding, planting and removal.
- Trash and litter cleanup, restroom cleaning and sanitation.
- Inspection, maintenance and repair of playgrounds within the City.
- Maintenance and repair of park amenities such as the following: picnic tables, grills, shelters, fencing, tennis and basketball courts, signs, bleachers, benches, bridges, boardwalks, landscape beds and walls.
- May operate any of the following equipment:
- Single and tandem axle trucks
- Skid loader, backhoe, tractors
- Turf mowing equipment, spray equipment
- Snowplow equipment
- Performs other maintenance tasks and assist other maintenance divisions, as assigned, including emergency situations or to balance seasonal workloads and schedules.
- Maintains and promotes good relationships between co‑workers, supervisors, in all divisions and departments of the City and the general public.
- Complies with and implements all safety rules, regulations and practices including wearing appropriate safety equipment as required to protect the employee, co‑workers and the public.
- Participate in educational classes or seminars as requested by the city.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of turf related equipment and practices like fertilizing and weed control.
- Mechanical aptitude desirable.
- Ability to perform all essential position functions including equipment operation commonly encountered in park maintenance operations.
- Ability to perform sustained physical work in a variety of weather conditions.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor.
- Ability to lift 50 or more pounds on a regular basis.
- Have general knowledge of technology and devices such as iPads and computers.
- Ability to work well with others within and outside the department.
- This work requires the regular exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force.
- Work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and tasting or smelling.
