Position Overview
Title: Cheer Coach Varsity Sideline Assistant – Fall/Winter Season
Type: Community Education / Casual Position
Location: Community Education

Closing Date: Open until filled
Schedule: May – November (subject to postseason), Wednesdays 3:30–5:30 pm with breaks during school, holiday and busy weekend periods (full list of days off given during interview)
Season Goals:
- Prepare athletes for current and college-level competition, ensuring proper technique is taught and drilled for each skill
- Create a positive, encouraging environment where athletes feel welcome and part of a cheerleading family
- Maintain safety by working at proper progression and providing spots as needed
- Set and enforce program‑wide practice expectations for student athletes
- Cheerleading experience in high‑school cheer (sideline and/or competitive); college cheer experience is helpful but not required
- Solid understanding of crowd‑leading skills: correct motion placements, body positions, props (signs/poms/megs), and vocal support
- Basic tumbling and stunting experience is a positive asset; higher‑level stunting (spinning, inversion) and spotting hand‑springs are preferred but not required
- Strong communication skills
- Excellent time management
- High energy and enthusiasm for working with high‑school‑aged students
- Availability to respond to questions promptly and to assist with mat set‑up and class preparation 20–30 min before practices or events
- Assist in leading and attending all practices and required events, arriving early to help with mat set‑up, check‑ins, and class preparation so the space is ready
- Communicate with parents as needed in coordination with the Head Coach
- Build relationships with athletes and parents
- Represent the program in a professional and respectful manner at all times (coaching staff, athletes, parents, community members, district staff, etc.)
- Provide constructive feedback to athletes during practices and maintain clear communication throughout the season
- Follow safety and progression protocols for all skills, ensuring proper spotting, solid basics before increases, and technique enforcement
- Hold athletes accountable for program standards and expectations, following through with coaches, parents, and CE as needed
- Ensure membership fees are current (paid through Community Education)
- Educate yourself on new skills when necessary, asking questions such as “What are the grips?” or “What are the progressions?”
- Seek assistance when needed
