Job SummaryThe Operational Risk Liaison is responsible for ensuring successful adherence to and implementation of assigned enterprise-risk programs, working with risk owners for various areas of the First Line of Defense (1
LOD), as well as operational and support functions.
The role will serve as an advisor and partner supporting business units across the bank, assisting the 1
LOD with identification of risks and issues, assessment of control design and operating effectiveness, gap assessments and other analyses to ensure policy and regulatory adherence.
- Function as the designated point of contact for the 1
LOD to facilitate the identification and assessment of risks and controls. - Effectively advise, help, and support the 1
LOD with informed risk and control perspectives. - Collaborate with 2nd and 3rd line colleagues across disciplines to strengthen the control environment and risk management practices.
- Support the execution of key risk program activities, including but not limited to Risk and Control Self Assessments (RCSAs) and Internal Control Testing.
- Support the development of a strong risk culture, risk conduct, and risk literacy within the 1
LOD. - Provide directions to control teams to align with organizational risk management priorities.
- Support and facilitate audit and exam activities.
- Develop expertise in relevant Farmers & Merchants Bank policies and procedures, and assist in their enhancement when necessary.
- Guide first line colleagues in designing and enhancing preventive and detective controls.
- Build and grow risk talent through coaching, performance management, and training.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong problem‑solving skills, including defining and deconstructing complex problems and prioritizing issues.
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, able to interact with colleagues at all levels and achieve goals without direct control over resources.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships, communicate effectively, work under pressure, manage multiple priorities and deliver high‑caliber results.
- Proficiency with MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
- Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
- Outstanding analytical abilities and quantitative analytical approaches, with strong oral and written communication.
- Quick learning ability and thorough attention to detail.
- Operates well under stress, even with tight timelines for ambitious deliverables.
- Experience in operational change with front line to senior leadership personnel.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
- Minimum 3‑5 years managing projects.
- Minimum 5 years within or related to financial services, with 3‑5 years in risk management.
- Desktop computer and associated software programs.
- Requires repetitive movement.
- Requires standing and/or sitting for prolonged periods of time.
- Requires lifting up to 20 lbs.
- Requires using hands to handle, control or feel objects.
- Office setting with controlled temperature.
