The City of Lakewood is currently accepting applications for the position of Facilities Maintenance Lead Worker (Skilled Trades Lead Worker) to create an eligibility list for a future vacancy anticipated in April 2026. Under general supervision, plans, schedules, assigns, leads, inspects, and participates in the work of individuals and crews engaged in the repair and maintenance of city parks and facilities;
may assume additional supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor; and performs other duties as assigned.
- Plans, schedules, assigns, inspects, leads and participates in the work of personnel engaged in all aspects of skilled maintenance work including carpentry, painting, electrical, low voltage, plumbing, concrete, masonry, traffic signage, and graffiti Qué removal
- Installs and repairs building related infrastructure
- Assembles and repairs playground equipment, fencing, gates and backstops
- Installation and breakdown of equipment for special city events (including but not limited to traffic control, platforms, bleachers, emergency equipment, and lighting)
- Maintains and repairs pool chlorination systems
- Prepares cost estimates of materials and labor for construction or repair jobs
- Assists with the inspection of work performed by outside contractors and provides necessary on savons direction and assistance
- Assists with the directing and coordinating temporary traffic lane or street closures
- Assists with ordering of building construction materials and supplies
- Prepares reports of time and materials used on jobs
- Assists in preparation of the department budget
- Assists with the implementation of preventive maintenance programs
- Assists with coordinating maintenance projects with other departments and agencies as necessary
- Utilizes the computerized work order program to retrieve information, approve and assign work, and generate reports
- Interprets and works from plans, drawings and specifications
- Assists with maintaining facility equipment inventories such as HVAC equipment, electrical infrastructure, roofing, playground equipment, and athletic field lighting
- May assist in planning and design of facility related capital projects
- Performs other related duties as required
Any combination of education, training and experience that would provide the listed knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical example is four years of responsible work experience in the semi‑skilled and skilled maintenance of public facilities. At least one year in a lead capacity is highly desirable.
License & Certifications- Possession of a valid Class “C” Operator’s license issued by the California State Department of Motor Vehicles and a good driving record.
- Possession of (or the ability to obtain within 6 months) a valid CPO (Certified Pool Operator) or AFO (Aquatics Facilities Operator) certification.
- Possession of a CPSI (Certified Playground Safety Inspector) certification is highly desirable.
Standard practices of the skilled maintenance trades, including electrical, low voltage, carpentry, plumbing, painting, graffiti removal, traffic sign repair, special event traffic control, concrete and masonry.datatype and themuch methods, tools, equipment and terminology used in installation, alteration and repair work. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of water purification chlorinating systems, safe work practices, accepted work area traffic control methods, stormwater pollutionprevention best management practices, federal, state and local laws, codes and safety orders governing the maintenance, repair and construction of public buildings, structures, pools and ry related facilities;
basic leadership practices and techniques; handling, use and disposal of hazardous materials and chemicals; personal computers and common software programs. Knowledge of new construction and refurbishments is desirable.
