This position is responsible for the safety and well being of children ages 6 months to 8 years of age while parents/guardians are working out or attending classes at the Golden Community Center.
Provides positive, fun and safe experiences to the children in their care.
Leads recreational activities for the children in child care facility.
Maintains cleanliness of room and organization of materials and equipment during the assigned shifts.
Makes recommendations for purchasing supplies and equipment.
Follows and enforces all department policies, rules and regulations while maintaining a friendly and professional attitude.
Maintains accurate records of the number of children in their care and collects payment receipts, tracks punch cards and ensures accountability of the program.
Handles and reports to the Recreation Manager any problems, concerns or emergencies that arise during the shifts.
Responsible for securing a substitute when unable to work assigned shift.
Other duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONSMinimum age 16 years. One to three months related experience or training with small children in such areas as day care, scouts, sports and/or babysitting.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSFirst Aid, and CPR for infant, child and adult certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS AND ABILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Excellent customer service and child care skills are imperative. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and participants.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one‑ or two‑step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables. Ability to exercise appropriate supervision and direction to children in an unstructured setting. Ability to make sound decisions and use good judgment during stressful situations.
MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USEDToys, crayons, pencils, paper, and books.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
WORKENVIRONMENT
Work environment is primarily in an indoor setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
