Assistant Professor of Graphic Design and Program Lead

Location:

Lakewood, CO. Salary: $65,000.00 – $75,000.00 per year (based on skills and experience).

The RMCAD Visual Communication Department offers industry‑aligned degree programs rooted in emerging technologies and interdisciplinary collaboration. The successful applicant will bring expertise in UI/UX design, interaction design, motion graphics, and modern web practices, and will integrate AI‑driven tools and emerging methodologies into the design process and curriculum.

Responsibilities Teaching & Instruction
  • Teach the approved course load and coordinate studio activities and portfolio reviews.
  • Maintain high teaching effectiveness as demonstrated by student evaluations and retention.
  • Provide peer‑to‑peer mentorship, coaching, and support to part‑time faculty.
  • Engage in scholarly activity, professional achievement, and ongoing research.
Curricular Leadership
  • Lead assessment of student learning, implement and manage assessment projects.
  • Develop a forward‑looking Graphic Design curriculum with emphasis on UI/UX best practices, responsive design, and interactive media trends.
  • Serve as a subject‑matter expert (SME) revising, designing, and developing course curriculum or program requirements.
  • Oversee SMEs in course revision and design, manage contracts in collaboration with the Department Chair.
  • Supervise and coordinate with Division/Department Coordinators as assigned.
Program Operations
  • Assist the Department Chair with course set‑up reviews, syllabus approvals, course observations, and annual faculty reviews.
  • Assist with hiring part‑time faculty, including application reviews and interview recommendations.
  • Purchase supplies and equipment per budget, supporting fiscal management practices.
  • Provide information on program budgets, faculty assignments, scheduling, student needs, and curriculum to the Chair.
  • Coordinate and support program events, activities, and meetings, including student clubs, professional associations, and advisory boards.
  • Support students on grade changes, prerequisite waivers, in completes, section switches, and address complaints in collaboration with faculty and advising.
Program Development
  • Collaborate with departments to support program health, recruitment, enrollment, and success.
  • Work with senior leadership, department chairs, and deans to research, design, build, launch, and maintain new degree and non‑degree programs.
  • Participate in accreditation efforts.
  • Attend events, strategic initiatives, and community events important to RMCAD and its programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of UI/UX design, interaction design, motion graphics, and modern web practices, with ability to integrate AI‑driven tools.
  • Expertise in brand identity systems, typography, and cross‑platform visual storytelling, with forward‑looking curriculum development.
  • Ability to teach and mentor students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Commitment to serving all students, staff, and faculty, respecting diversity.
  • Broad knowledge of art history, contemporary art and design.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills across multiple teaching modalities.
  • Ability to work autonomously, take initiative, and meet deadlines.
  • Contribution to a respectful, positive, and professional workspace.
  • Interest in emerging trends and technologies in design education and practice.
Required Qualifications
  • A graduate degree (MA, MS, MFA, MDes, or equivalent) in Graphic Design, UI/UX Design, or Interaction Design, or a bachelor’s degree plus a substantial, sustained record of professional practice.
  • 2+ years of leadership experience in an academic, curricular, or professional context.
  • 2+ years of teaching experience in an accredited postsecondary institution with proven expertise in UI/UX principles.
  • Examples of pedagogical approaches aligned with the institution’s mission and values, with evidence of inclusive teaching.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across faculty, instructional design, and academic leadership.
