Opportunity

WSP is seeking a highly motivated Intermediate Water Resources Engineer to join our team in Tucson or Phoenix, AZ. Other WSP locations such as Lakewood, CO;
Lander, WY; and additional sites may be considered for the right candidate. The candidate will engage with multiple mining projects nationally and globally, providing stormwater management solutions through hydraulic and hydraulic modeling, drainage/civil design, fieldwork, project planning, data analysis, drawing support, permitting support, and construction support.

Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation to support engineering observations, calculations, methods, conclusions, and recommendations for engineering and design projects. Ensures that projects are delivered and responsibilities are adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds industry standards.

Your Impact
  • Perform specific portions of broader projects under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to provide stormwater management solutions for mining facilities for existing and potential clients.
  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and drainage/civil design.
  • Prepare detailed calculation packages including proper documentation and references.
  • Assist with the development of technical reports, drawings, and specifications.
  • Prepare reservoir and pond designs including breach analysis, outlet works, and spillways.
  • Design channels and energy dissipation structures that include concrete, riprap, articulated concrete block, fabric‑formed concrete, and baffle blocks for erosion control.
  • Work with CAD designers to produce drawings from conceptual to construction‑level design including grading and drainage plans, profiles, details, and sections.
  • Perform work in accordance with an agreed upon scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Interact with clients, subcontractors, and other business partners in a confident and professional manner.
  • Apply critical thinking skills to help solve complex problems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to complete design, permitting, operational optimization, and closure assessments for large mining operations.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • In addition to the core responsibilities listed above, this role may occasionally include:
    • Participate in the development of probabilistic, dynamic systems‑based water balance and water quality models for the mining industry under the direction of intermediate and senior modelers.
    • Support project teams with data analysis and interpretation.
    • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental engineering.
  • Engineer in Training Certification and the desire to pursue a professional engineering license.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant work experience in water resources engineering including experience creating engineering designs and hydrologic and hydraulics models.
  • Experience with industry software programs (e.g., HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, and AutoCAD Civil 3D).
  • Proficient knowledge of stormwater evaluation and design engineering principles, practices, and processes (e.g., hydrologic analysis, hydraulic analysis, stormwater management design).
  • Well‑developed ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles.
  • Experience producing high‑quality technical and professional deliverables on projects including technical memorandums and reports.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to quickly recognize significant discrepancies and logic errors.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Willingness and ability to listen carefully to instructions, assimilate large amounts of information, and adapt to changes quickly.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non‑engineering audience.
