Position: Single-Role Emergency Medical Technician

Single-Role Emergency Medical Technician (SR-EMT) is a civilian position holding an EMT‑Basic certification. The SR‑EMT performs emergency and non‑emergency medical functions in accordance with Denver Metro Prehospital Protocols (DMPP) and district policies. The role supports mobile integrated healthcare services, ambulance transports, EMS training, inventory management, and other EMS functions as needed. The SR‑EMT reports directly to the EMS Captain and station officer and does not participate in firefighting activities.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate knowledge of district policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Provide rescue and EMT life support at emergency scenes, administering intravenous therapy, endotracheal intubation, pharmacologic therapy, pacing, cardioversion, defibrillation when indicated.
  • Perform patient assessment and management of illness or injury for all patients, including vital signs and advanced diagnostics.
  • Transfer, lift, and move patients safely using proper techniques.
  • Lead and/or participate in direct patient management.
  • Perform complex diagnostic and medical procedures such as intravenous cannulation, endotracheal intubation, cardiac arrhythmia recognition, medication administration, DEA‑scheduled drugs, testing and laboratory equipment usage.
  • Complete patient care information and required documentation per district procedures.
  • Check personal gear, assigned vehicles, equipment, and tools for safe operation.
  • Operate apparatus safely and efficiently per district policies.
  • Maintain familiarity with district service area maps and roads.
  • Participate in scheduled training classes.
  • Maintain required certifications and training.
  • Develop and maintain positive, effective relationships with district employees, volunteers, residents, agencies, and community.
  • Maintain constructive written and oral communication skills.
  • Work well in a progressive, team‑oriented environment and provide excellent service to the community.
  • Have a positive attitude, be a self‑starter, promote a professional image.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong communication skills, including clear, concise, accurate written reports.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English at a level adequate for the position, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and presenting ideas effectively.
  • Ability to interact in a firehouse setting.
  • Strong public relations and customer service skills for routine and emergency settings.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, officials, and the public.
  • Familiarity and proficiency with Windows OS, Microsoft Office, district records management software, learning management software, and other district software for accounting and scheduling.
  • Current knowledge of the streets and road systems of the Fire District.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, routine correspondence, and memos; write reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings to the public and organization members.
  • Ability to interpret written, oral, or diagram instructions.
JOB REQUIREMENTS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE ENTRY
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Colorado EMT‑B, AEMT, or EMT‑P certificate (specific to the level posted).
  • Proficiency in math and English.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and stressful conditions.
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license with insurable driving record.
OTHER NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license (or eligibility to obtain by employment start) with safe driving record.
  • Background investigation, polygraph, physical exam, and substance screening required before employment.
  • Ability to meet physical demands, retrieve information from varied locations, and handle high activity and stress.
  • Extensive communication with district employees, public, and external agencies.
  • Relocation allowance up to $5,000 if not Colorado resident.

Compensation: $50,000 - $58,000 yearly salary.
