Montech is currently seeking a GIS Support Specialist to serve as project support to team that will provide expert technical support in geospatial data technologies, data management, and program and business analytics which support Indian Affairs (IA) and Tribal government programs. Current needs include the task of addressing the backlog of mapping that needs to be completed to show accurate representations trust lands, incumbrancers on trust lands, and other trust assets recorded in the Trust Asset Accounting Management System (TAAMS), to develop GIS applications/dashboards to support leadership/Tribal initiatives, assist in parcel mapping, fee-to-trust administration and many other mapping functions as needed.

and Hours of Performance

The GIS Support Specialist shall perform duties on site in Lakewood, Colorado (Denver Metro Area), Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m.

- 5:00 p.m., except for U.S. federal Holidays. This role allows for hybrid status and flexible hours with approval.
Travel for site visits is required.

Summary of Responsibilities

The GIS Support Specialist will be required to perform work to include but may not be limited to the following:

  • Implements analytical techniques necessary to solve recurring, procedural, and factual geospatial and GIS issues. Knowledge of legal land descriptions, right of ways & leases.
  • Administers geospatial databases and implements quality control and assurance guidelines for geospatial data projects within ESRI parcel fabric environment.
  • Participates on interdisciplinary teams with various stakeholders such as other federal agencies, Regional Geospatial Coordinators and other BIA divisions on various mapping projects.
  • Implements analytical techniques necessary to solve recurring, procedural, and factual geospatial and GIS issues (i.e. identifying data needs for specific projects, determining compatibility with other platforms, locating missing information).
  • Knowledge of geographic/cartographic sciences, interdisciplinary resource management, and database management in order to learn to administer geospatial databases. Knowledge of appropriate database design principles in order to identify interrelationships within GIS data.
  • Knowledge of standardized geospatial and GIS software/hardware applicable to the BIA/tribes.
  • Ability to develop and maintain metadata for all GIS projects for the Division.
Qualifications

The GIS Support Specialist will respond to project requests involving the use of various technologies including but not limited to Smartsheet.

GOV and the ESRI Suite of GIS software. Tasks within these environments and other future technology environments include:

  • Mapping of legal land descriptions from Trust Asset and Accounting Management System (TAAMS) for parcels, tracts, ROW, leases and other encumbrances on Trust Lands.
  • Migrating Land Area Code (LAC) data to ESRI Enterprise Parcel Fabric on the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) AWS portal.
  • Creation of Dashboards and or Dynamic views used for conveying information as well as work progress for DRIS projects.
  • Assisting in Fee-To-Trust process and working with the Land Description and Validation Request (LDEV) Team.
Security

Employment is contingent upon the ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and a federal security investigation (background check) and receive a U.S. Department of the Interior Public Trust clearance prior to start date. The background investigation reviews employment, criminal, financial, and personal history to ensure there are no outstanding violations.
