Lakewood Surgery Center is hiring a Surgical Scheduler to support our pediatric, adult, and geriatric surgical patients. The Scheduler will manage appointment scheduling, insurance verification, and keep the operating room schedule running smoothly and efficiently.
Responsibilities- Schedule all surgical procedures and ensure accurate operation room time allocation.
- Enter all necessary information from surgeons, schedulers, or other staff requesting OR time.
- Identify and communicate instrument and equipment limitations to the department.
- Coordinate with the OR Director/Administrator to manage block time and room turnover.
- Attempt to group similar cases in the same room to increase efficiency.
- Communicate special equipment, instrument, supply, and staffing requests to the OR Director.
- Proofread and edit all surgery schedules before distribution.
- Contact surgeon’s offices two days prior to confirm surgical times and procedures.
- Refer conflicts and procedural questions to the OR Director.
- Keep all department managers informed of changes affecting the current schedule.
- Assist with completing forms for add‑on procedures.
- Prepare and distribute a “week at a glance” to aid departmental staffing.
- Minimize downtime between cases.
- Create the final schedule for the following day.
- Assist other employees when time allows.
- Provide marketing support by visiting surgeon offices as requested.
- Demonstrate punctuality, reliability, and a responsible attendance record.
- Participate in BDP/QI programs and activities.
- Cross‑train in front desk areas, including switchboard, insurance verification, and check‑in.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Excellent communication and telephone etiquette skills.
- Strong planning and organizational abilities.
- Capacity to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Ability to foresee problems and adapt to changing situations.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
- Proactive in identifying potential issues.
Pay Range: $25.00/hr – $28.50/hr (based on qualifications and experience)
