EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN - EMT at JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute
Overview
Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) is a leader in patient care and community service. As an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) you will provide Basic Life Support (BLS) services for emergency and non‑emergency requests, transport patients safely, and collaborate with police, fire, ALS, and other health providers.
Responsibilities
- Respond to calls promptly and provide BLS treatment according to NJ regulations and HMH policies.
- Maintain accurate patient care reports and communicate updates to medical control physicians.
- Operate emergency vehicles safely, ensuring compliance with HMH vehicle operation policies.
- Perform daily vehicle & equipment checks, including safety inspections and fuel/ fluid monitoring.
- Assist in patient transport, patient repositioning, and equipment handling, maintaining patient comfort and safety.
- Collaborate with other public safety and healthcare personnel at all care stages.
- Support HMH Quality Assurance program, documenting trends and reporting incidents.
- Provide patient education within EMT scope; maintain up‑to‑date clinical competency through required training.
- Adhere to HMH Code of Conduct and maintain professional demeanor at all times.
- Complete additional duties as directed by leadership.
Qualifications – Required
- High School Diploma or GED
- Evidenced knowledge of Incident Command System (ICS‑100, 200, 700, and NIMS)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite
- Current NJ EMT certification (or national EMT‑Basic with reciprocity)
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) or BLS Instructor certification
- Valid U.S. driver’s license
- Completion of CEVO Certified Emergency Vehicle Operator training or EVOC course within 90 days of hire
Qualifications – Preferred
Two years of BLS experience, preferably 9‑1‑1 EMSWorking Conditions
- Must lift and move patients and equipment, often in challenging environments.
- Expect transport in various weather conditions and emergencies to comply with safety regulations.
- Requires verbal and written communication with patients and healthcare providers.
- Vehicle operation responsibilities in shift rotations.
- Physical capability to lift, carry, and transport patients and equipment up to 350 pounds.
Compensation
Minimum hourly rate: $24.36. HMH offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement benefits.
