About the Role
Lakewood Surgery Center is hiring a full‑time Medical Biller. Lakewood Surgery Center provides first‑class surgical services to local communities and recognizes employees as its number one asset. We focus on offering a high quality, ambulatory care alternative to a hospital for surgical procedures. Our facility is accredited by The Joint Commission.
The Medical Biller is responsible for overseeing the entire billing process for patient accounts—from submitting all billings to insurance in a timely manner, to working with our coding specialist to ensure that all cases are coded correctly and leading monthly coding audits. The role also takes the lead in driving insurance collections.
Key Responsibilities- Electronically submit patient procedure bills to third‑party payers
- Perform timely and accurate postings of payments received from third‑party payers and/or patients
- Process all rejected and denied claims submitted to third‑party payers
- Contact insurance companies to collect outstanding payments
- Monitor and collect on accounts receivable aging
- Interpret managed care contracts, Medicare and Medicaid, and Workers Compensation claims
- Identify accounts that have been under or over‑paid
- Issue credit balance information to insurance carriers or patients
- Demonstrate excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Work independently and interdependently with other business office staff
- Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance
- Handle stressful environments and demanding situations with patience
Skills and Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalency
- At least 3 years of experience in medical billings, with extensive knowledge of claims reimbursement and collection efforts for Managed Care, Medicare, Medicaid, Workers Comp, and Commercial plans
- Extensive knowledge of billing, collections, and reimbursement of claims processing
- Fluent in medical terminology and CPT codes
- Ability to work independently
- Strong organization, time‑management, and task‑prioritization skills
- Ability to maintain patient information security discreetly
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent customer service skills, always demonstrating professionalism
- Comfortable using critical thinking skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products
- Understanding of healthcare policies such as HIPAA regulations
$25.00/hr - $28.28/hr (Wages are determined based upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications and experience.)
