Under the direction of the Program Manager, assist in advancing South Sound Military and Communities Partnership (SSMCP) objectives that promote the value of military installations in the region and state. Work to strengthen knowledge and support of military presence in the South Sound through effective military-community relationships and sustainable regional planning. This position serves an integral role for enhancing SSMCP through research, analysis, and recommendations;

community involvement and outreach; and strategy development and implementation.

Essential duties may include but are not limited to the following:

Analysis and Reporting

Work with the Program Manager to implement strategies and procedures for ongoing data collection, analysis, reporting, internal and external communications, social media outreach, event planning, and monitoring of current and future activities related to identified SSMCP priorities and initiatives.

Attendance

Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.

Coordination

Assist, coordinate, and support the activities and initiatives of the South Sound Military & Communities Partnership (SSMCP); assist with implementation and periodic update of the JBLM Joint Land Use Study (JLUS) and Growth Coordination Plan (GCP).

Grant Funding and Reconciliation

Identify funding sources and assist in preparing grant applications to support SSMCP projects and activities. Assist Program Manager with preparing and reconciling monthly, quarterly, and annual grant reports to appropriate agencies as well as administering the adopted SSMCP budget.

Liaison

Assist Program Manager with ongoing military-civilian, inter-military installation, and SSMCP-tribal relations and interactions. Advocate on behalf of the SSMCP and who it supports at the local, state, and federal level. Engage as directed with national associations and organizations. Serve as secondary support staff to the SSMCP’s Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and Steering Committee. Staff SSMCP Working Groups and ad hoc committees in coordination with the Program Manager.

Meetings

and Presentations

Attend relevant military-related community meetings, and draft summaries that synthesize and report information discussed at such meetings; make oral and written presentations to the SSMCP ELT, Steering Committee, Working Groups, elected officials, and business and citizen groups as requested.

Safety

Actively champion a culture of and commitment to workplace safety through everyday actions and leadership.

Additional Duties

Perform additional duties as directed by the Program Manager.

Any equivalent combination of education and experience that would likely provide the candidate with the knowledge and abilities to successfully perform the job will be considered. A typical combination is a Bachelor’s degree in public administration, urban planning, communications, or a closely related field AND two (2) years of related government experience.

Prior military experience or experience working with the Department of Defense is required. Prior experience working at or with JBLM is preferred.

License and Certification Requirements

A valid driver’s license with a driving record that meets an acceptable standard for safety at the point of hire and throughout employment in this position. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.

Knowledge of

Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.

Current professional research and report writing methods.

Local, State, and Department of Defense organizations, budgeting, fiscal system, general political structure, codes and terminology.

Effective methods of organizing and utilizing data.

Current social media programs and communication techniques.

Website management and maintenance.

Event coordination and developing marketing strategies and producing marketing materials.

Washington State and local government land use practices.

Ability To

Represent the SSMCP and related groups at internal and external meetings.

Communicate effectively orally and in writing, including public speaking.
